04 TSX - Need info on wiring. Trying to install aftermarket HU and retaining OE HU.
Been searching post all day. Can't seem to find the info needed.
Currently trying to find wiring info so i can connect the aftermarket HU.
Plans:
OE Head unit will connect to the Aftermarket HU's Aux input.
Want to know where and what wire i can use use from the stock harness to connect the aftermarket HU's red (hot/power) wire, ground wire, illumination (not really important but nice to have), and back up power i guess it's what they're called (normaly yellow color).
Any help is appreciated

yea i read that one too. closest one i've stumbled on is https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ket+connection .. where they were refering to the cig lighter for the hot wire.
I know TSX536 did what i'm planing to do. We discussed it like 2 year ago. looking for that thread right now

after reading a couple thread.
Do you all think it's wise to piggy back the hot/power ( red ) wire of the aftermarket HU to the cig lighter? and add a fuse to it?

Honestly I'd go to your local car shop and buy those "add a fuse kits" and run the wire to the fuse box..

Found a thread that might be of some help for people who's planing to still retain their OE HU.

Based on the first pic, looks like we might be able to use the crutchfield adaptor for the hot, illumination, and constant lead for the aftermarket HU. From the picture, the adapter connects to the male adaptor of the OE harness that seems like it connects to the factory amp.
If we can get the diagram of that oe adaptor. We might just struck gold!

Are you just trying to get the audio signal to the aftermarket head unit from the factory HU? You can use a line output converter (LOC) from any of the full-bandwidth speaker wires in the car. Look at any of the threads for subwoofer installs only and you will see many people use LOCs off of the rear speaker wires

Oh no, I've already got the audio signal going from the OE HU to the amp already. I'm going to be changing that set up for a new setup. The OE HU audio signal front will go to the DSP processer for my aftermarket HU in its aux input. Then the audio signal from the aftermarket HU will go to the aftermarket amps. Eventually I'll add a IPod to the aux input of the OE HU.
I'm trying to add in a aftermarket HU while retaining the OE HU for functionality purpose. Trying to find a wire that I can use for the aftermarket HU's power, constant, and illumination wire.

Went to the dealership and got a copy of the OE amp for its pin/plug diagram.
Looking at the 20 pin, I wonder if A9 is an output for power wire that I can connect my aftermarket HU's power wire. And A10 will be the constant power wire. And it's pretty obvious that the other A cavity are output since it's labled for specific speakers.
And the female 20 pin we can buy is the Metra 70-1721 .. or on crutchfield 120701721

So at this point you're only worried about power wires, and all of the audio is connected already?
You can really use anything to power your head unit. I have tapped into power at places all over the car. I just use a running-splice type connector and add a fuse if there's any chance the new component will bring down the car in a huge electrical fire.

Well that really depends on the head unit...
A good head unit should have a built-in fuse. If yours doesn't check the current rating on the back of the unit, it should be around 10A or so. Get a fuse that matches the max current draw from the unit, and if it starts to draw more it'll get cut out of the circuit.

well looks like i think i might have solve my delima. I plan to use A9 and A10 for the power and constant for the aftermarket HU. And mostlilely i'll be using A20 for ground as well.
The adapter i got need 2 pins moved around just for color matching. I'm stoked! can't wait to finish the rest up. thanks for all the help. I'll post update if A9 and A10 will work.

Keep in mind that you want to keep your ground wire as short as possible. Also, try to match the gauge of your power and ground wires if possible.

Working on the write up right now. Waiting on the SRS module to be returned so i can continue. The OEM mp3 attachment kit basically blocks access to SRS module location. Got into a car accident about 3 months back. Been trying to piece parts back together.
