Lying to people to get what you want seems more fucked up to me than hoping for the best simply because the person you are interested in seems genuine enough. It seems like you had all this planned out. You told me about the credit card, you told me what to put to get a good limit, then you just casually suggested items with subtle comments like "omfg I don't know what I'd do to the guy who got me that" or "you'd look so sexy holding one of these as a gift" etc etc. So, at the very least, I commend you on your ability to plan and totally manipulate a situation for your benefit. I hope I can someday do the same, though I wouldn't, since to do so is beyond almost anything I would ever wish on someone.

I am telling the story as it actually happened. I didn't convince you to buy anything. I remember that one night you told me that you were thinking of buying that bag. I told you that you didn't have to and not to do anything that would put you in the hole. You said you wanted to do it, I'm not sure how I twisted your arm there. Anyhow, I don't have the bag anymore, I did get faith to return it and we dropped the check off at a donation box along with a bunch of other stuff I didn't need that reminded me of this situation. I didn't think that someone who'd go ahead and twist the story deserved anything back. Not sure what there is left to say here, we'll never agree on what actually happened so theres no point in talking about it.
