The FBI, Homeland Security, and the Orlando Police are involved. The FBI confiscated the bullet this afternoon when he came to write a report.

The gun was picked up by a homeland security officer and o.p.d. officer

The guy who admited to owning the gun is a convicted fellon and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. He is believed to be a Canadian Citizen and possibly tied to the planned attack in toronto a week or so ago.

The police/FBI/homeland security know where the guys are now and will be picking them up shortly when the proper warrents are pushed.

I didn't speak to the FBI but did spend about 2 hours talking to the orlando police and dept. of homeland security tonight...The driver had contacted them last night and they came by today to pick up the gun and process it...I do have serial numbers and it is a AK-47 7.62 calliber

I do apologize for doubting you, though you said yourself it was an unbelievable story. I also am willing to bet with all the information, especially in regards to the cop letting potential terrorists go, you can make national news without a problem.

Yes, we got there just as the Police picked it up and talked to the...

but The driver is getting the weapon back...there was an agreement made at teh scene that the gun would be to cover the damages

it was a legit trade per the officers tonight..although they may be saying that to cover their 'brothers' but never less we have 3 witnesses + 2 officers all understanding that the weapon will be back to the driver.

What kind of real proof are you looking for?

well to start with, that's not an ak-47. you looked at it, right? what did it say was the model? where was it made? can you tell us what you saw on it, any distinctive markings? i think what you have there might be some legal semi-automatic copy, i don't know the knock-offs that well. but it does appear to be 7.62mm x 39, which will kill you real fast.

AH! My kind of post! The Ak-47 variant in question is a Yugoslavian manufactured M70AB2 underfolder. These are 7.62x39mm, and were imported earlier this year by Century International Arms of Vermont, and built on D.C. Industries receivers. I have built a couple of these myself from de-milled parts kits, and they are very rugged and reliable as far as AK variants go. The M70 is in no way illegal to own provided that you are not a felon or violent offender of some sort. They are readily found for $400-$500. If you notice, there is a flip-up gas-block/grenade launching sight just above the gas tube. Before being imported into the U.S. and re-tooled into semi-autos, these rifles did see service and battle with Yugoslavian forces. If this turns out to be a weapon used in a "crime", chances are, your friend may not be able to keep this, but please, feel free to purchase one for yourself. For us shooters and collectors, these are one of the most interesting and well sought after AKs. In a year or two, they will not be that easy to come across.
