i could only imagine the sheer fright of thinking youre in your last couple seconds on earth...
I bet youre thinking theres a lot of things you need to do now, huh?
Im really really sorry that you had to experience that, but at least you learned a lesson from it (not being a bitch, listen). it wouldve been worse if this all happened and then you still decided to get your new bike.
but id really look into why the fucking engine exploded like that.

Well, I hope you get more sympathy here than scrutiny. I also hope you learned, bro. I really do. Glad to hear you're okay, but lets not all take ourselves too seriously. On that note...

Sometimes, we really have to experience something tragic to comprehend the finiteness of our lives.
We are just glad that this has opened your eyes and you are still alive. Hope you get better soon!

MAN!! I ride too and I read stories all the time on boards but this is the most heartfelt story I've ever heard.
I don't know you, but I am happy you are alive.
I'm going to email this too my friend who is a little over zealous, and will be getting a bike soon.
Your story may save his life.
Thanks for sharing and God Bless.

Thanks for all the comments and concerns....I just woke up, and I feel worse than yesterday. I couldnt even get a good nights sleep, my legs felt like they were on fire the whole time, and hurt even more when I moved them. It took me about a minute to get the covers off and get out of bed.
As for the bike, it was having problems, we did an oil change, and everything seemed fine, it was running strong. Maybe mileage had something to do with it (30k + ). Who knows. But the previous owner didnt take the best care of it, and I tried to fix some things, but oh well. The bike also had no insurance since it was paid off, so thats a total loss.
But even more unfortunately, right now I dont have health insurance. I still hadnt gotten around to filling out all the paperwork to get it, and now this happens, and i'm on the hook for the whole bill. I dont even know how much it is yet. I dont even want to know to be honest with you. And i'm going to be out of work for maybe a month or more. So basically I'm feeling pretty shitty right about now, but that all pales in comparison as to what could have happened.
The reason I posted this story was because, in a way, I feel like I know a lot of you and wanted to know. Even though this is only an internet board, its also an outlet to vent and tell how I really feel, know what I mean. In a weird way, I do think of this board as a 'family' and am glad to have you guys to talk to .

He had no medical nor any motorcycle insurance...and I am thinking his auto policy wouldn't do anything for this since the bike wasn't on the policy.

Glad your ok. I know first hand what it's like to loose someone in a bike wreck.
We all learn out lessons. Sometimes it's a hard one. But it's for the better just remember that.

I'm gonna try and see if my auto insurance will cover it, but I dunno. I ll have to wait and see. I wasnt wearing leathers, just shorts and a tshirt since I was just going on a short trip. Luckily the way I landed broke my fall a little bit, althougth flying off a bike on a fire at 40mph isnt a picnic. The thing that saved me was my helmet. Without that, i'd be dead. and luckily I was wearing gloves, or else my hands would be toast.
The burns are pretty bad, and I hope there is no permanent scarring, but I dont know for sure.

are they 3rd degree if so they will more then likely scare up if less than that most should fade in time. keep them bandaged and use a&D on the burns the last thing you want is bacteria on burns it will get infected super easy. when u shower wash with antibacterial soap. i had bad burns on my arms and legs from have 3 big tattos lasered and you end up with 2nd degree burns pretty nasty big ass blisters all kinds of good stuff.

I could see if it were a brand new bike on a 55MPH ride home from the dealership, but this one is old with many miles on it.
Probably an old dry rotten oil line blew from all of those 100+ MPH runs he’s been posting about.
Shit happens...he should be glad he's still alive.

Glad to hear your OK Eric. You seemed to have a good reaction to an emergency too, pulling off to the median while you are practically on fire. I hope the burns aren't too bad.

When I first started riding, I had my learner's for about 2 years. Unless you’re doing something reckless or in an accident, police will usually understand that it's pretty difficult to always be with another licensed rider at all times and just give riders a warning. However, when a guy made a left hand turn right in front of me as I went through an intersection, it didn't matter that it wasn't my fault. The cop on the scene actually followed me to the hospital and gave me a citation for driving without a license. He was cool though, he told me that if I got my license before the court date, the charge would be dropped.

Pics?
Glad to hear you're OK man. I thought there was going to be a punchline to the story, or it was some kind of trap you were baiting us into, but I guess not. Things will work out, and hopefully you won't be riding completely insurance-less the next time. Brace yourself for some ridiculous medical bills.
