Exclamation AcuraZine: Car Of The Month Discussion

ACURAZINE CAR OF THE MONTH

We finally got what we were asking for
  • This will consist of the first 15 days of submitting cars for Car Of The Month. At the end of the first 15 days we will begin the judging, and of course judging will be performed by the members of the forum with a one time vote via a poll. At the end of the 15 days the submission thread will be locked and a new thread will be made available with the voting poll.
  • Car Of The Month winner, will receive some sort of recognition (title/badge under the username, maybe their car featured on the home page... although I cant promise anything ) however, it is currently undecided what will take place for the winner.
  • Car Of The Month judging will take place the month before the winner is announced. (October judging will determine Novembers winner, where the November winner will carry the badge for the entire month of November)
  • I will make the month submission threads and sticky them so they can be found easily. Lets keep this forum clean and on topic.

Let the submissions begin

so people have to submit their own cars?
I thought this was usually done by people nominating other's cars.

It can be either way. Ultimately its going to be the members of the forum who decide the winner. Usually most people are modest and recommend a friend or a car that strikes them as worthy of the title, but it is not limited to that. Anyone car recommend their own car.

A couple of things...

Winners will receive a set of AcuraZine stickers in addition to the visual symbol by your username. I think we can definitely publish winners to the homepage.

All entrants must have the car and all details filled out in their garage before entering.

Murky, we should create Calendar events, then users can 'subscribe' and get reminders when it's submission/voting/winning time.

cheers,
robb

For the time being I think limiting to Acuras is the best choice. Im sure we can have a month where its a free for all Acurazine members car of the month.

Yes, or maybe depending on how things go we can have both an Acura COTM and a non-Acura COTM.

I think the interest is there and members are going to like this feature. I've seen it in other forums and it's well received. I know when I would view a COTM it would give me ideas to mod my own vehicle. It's also good to have something new to the site. Helps keep the interest.

I have a few ideas that may make this work a little better but would like to get everyones input before I make the changes. So, here they are:

  • Limit 15 cars per month for submission
  • Have Semi-Finals, then Finals- basically 15 days of submissions, then 10 days of voting for the top 3 finalists, then 5 days of voting to determine car of the month.
  • If you are nominated by another member of the forum (not yourself) you have the option to remove yourself from the submission- this would allow the nominated member to remove himself if he feels his car is not where he wants it yet so that he can finish his car before be submitted.
  • Car of the Month winners will not be eligible for car of the month showcase for at least 12 months (1 year)- this is to allow other members to get the opportunity to be car of the month.

If you guys have any other suggestions please post them here and we can all discuss.

can ppl who have submitted and potentially went on to be a finalist submit again the next month or does the 12 month rule apply to them as well.

They can definitely resubmit the following month but they may want to wait to either take better pictures or do a couple more mods to help their chances of winning.

just by looking at the Oct votes, a 3G TL will likely win. maybe there should be a rule where you cant have consecutive COTM for the same model.

for example, Oct and Nov COTM cannot be 3G TL's.

it would get boring and other models probably wont even stand a chance since there's mostly 3G TL owners on this site. that way there would be a variety of COTM winners from different models.

I think winners should have a small survey/questionnaire to go through once winning.
Such as questions like:
Why the 3G, What lead you to the mods, Inspirations, Something you done that failed, Thanks, last words...
that kinda stuff.

Funny you say that. I sent a bunch of questions to rodneyc77 to answer for his winning thread. I will do this from now on as well.

If you ever run out of "themes", at least once in a while make a model theme. Give the TSX'ers and CL'ers a chance at winning against these TL's!!!

Ill take that into consideration. I would like to see more involvement from the community though. It seems that this has fallen off the charts.....

I honestly couldn't tell you. Maybe a sticky at the top of each model section in huge bold letters?

It needs advertisement. People usually don't wonder off into different sections. Have moderators make a sticky under all of the models. Other than that, this section is like a hole in a wall. It needs advertisement.

I do advertise when the submissions are open but it's a pain when I have to make a thread in every forum and sub forum. I'll have to talk with Astro or RonA about settin up a sticky of some sort.
