Can I 'tag' a member in a thread?

Is there any way I can somehow 'tag' a member in a thread they are not subscribed to or participating in so they get a notification of some sort?

On some boards I participate in this can be achieved by prefixing the user name with an '@' or other key character (ex. @MI-RDX) and when the post is submitted they get a notification they've been mentioned. I can't seem to find a comparable capability here - does it exist?

TIA

Thanks, I got a notification for that but I'm subscribed to this thread. If you were to do the same in a thread I have no connection to would I still get notified?

yes, by default the user tagging system is on. to turn it off, a user will have to go into the buried settings to turn it off. that's the long answer.

short answer: yes.
