Thumbs down Image Upload Tool

It sucks. It has less features than the previous version, the UI is worse, and it's buggy and very unreliable. With the latest update we lost the ability to paste images from the clipboard, so the ability to paste a screenshot saved in the clipboard is gone.

The UI is worse because when you choose upload from URL it doesn't automatically put your cursor in the URL field, you have to choose the URL field and then paste the URL, and if you want to paste another image URL you have to choose from the drop down again and then move your cursor again. You didn't have to do that with the previous uploader, you could paste from clipboard and the cursor was automatically placed in the URL field, and you didn't have to choose URL again from the dropdown menu when uploading a 2nd image.

Then on top of that, images don't load have the time, while uploading an image it'll hang at 99 or 100% and never load, then if you do get an image to load in the upload tool, once you click OK half the time the image doesn't load in the post, if you view the source of the post, the image URL is there but image doesn't load in the post, and other members can't see the image either.

So yeah the basic functionality of this tool is broken, and the UI sucks, and it has less features.

I hate it.

Have seen the same issue on multiple occasions lately.

This issue had occurred a while back, then stopped. It is now back again.

Thanks for the feedback. The image loading issue you described should be resolved, but just to be safe, I'd like to run a few tests on our end. What browser were you using when it occurred?

In terms of other functionality, such as the ability to paste from your clipboard as soon as the uploader appears, we're working towards making that possible.

Thanks, we made some adjustments in the time since your reply that should hopefully help. Any better luck on your end over the past couple days?

not really, in regards to the change you made in May. But I notice that paste from clipboard works again and I don't have to click into anything to do it. Thanks for adding those features back!

I know this is kind of a specific question, but if you had to estimate it, how frequently would you say the incomplete image loading still occurs for you?

Image upload is working now, and has the same features as the old uploader, ui could be a little better but whatever it's 90% as good as the old one.

But how about .mp4 support? HTML5 supports .mp4, on imgur you can upload a video with audio and it uses .mp4 and it will give you BBcode with the [img] tags but when you put [img] tags around an .mp4 imgur link it doesn't work, if I use .gifv it will work but there's no audio.

I'd like the ability to embed links to videos with audio, the audio would be muted by default if it plays automatically, though ideally they'd user would have to click play and then then audio would be on by default along with a mute and play/pause button, maybe full screen too.

Thanks for the suggestion! Right now we don't have any direct video uploading features in the works, but we automatically embed YouTube and Vimeo links if you paste the URL into your post should you wish to upload to those platforms. I'm happy to share your feedback with our teams internally, though.
