Unfortunately, these rogue pop-ups have started appearing all around our network this past week. We have a filter in place that can preemptively block such ads, but one rogue advertiser found a way around it. As we feed new information into the filter, it'll get better at blocking the ads. So if you see a redirect when browsing the site, please take a screenshot, post it here, and I'll share it with our ad team.

Thanks!

Is the link itself beneficial at all? I'm trying to find a way to provide the most value to isolate and nip it in the bud and not understanding how the screenshot can be helpful (forgive my ignorance)

Great question. Yes, the URL can help too. We tend to ask for screenshots of where people are redirected because it includes both the top-level URL and the content of the page itself. For example, your screenshots are able to tell us the redirects go to a site called giftenterentrega.desi and that the ads' content centers around a fake ISP giveaway. But if you'd like to also include the specific URL of the page you end up on, there could be some commonalities within those too that can help us filter faster.

Thanks!

Thanks for the additional screenshots and source code. We should hopefully be able to get to the bottom of all this soon!

There was another similarly named pop up that came up yesterday but I was too busy enjoying my weekend to post it

Can't you just block all .desi domains as they seem somewhat nefarious..?

The tricky part is that the domains are usually masked when first presented to our ad partners, so it requires essentially reverse engineering the redirects to determine how they're getting into the system. We'll continue to do so until all the rogue ads have been preemptively blocked.

Well then I guess we'll just have to continue treating the symptom because they're smarter than us

Thanks for letting us know! I passed along the screenshot and URL to our ad team and they're looking into it.
