MDX Model Split

The MDX is one of Acura's best sellers and the RL is one of the worst but the RL is split by model (1st gen/2nd gen) but the MDX covers numerous versions from the original to the 2010 MMC.
I propose a split for the latest gen including the 10/11 MMC.

Good call, definitely could use a 1st gen, 2nd gen split...

I did not know their were that many contribuating members in the mdx forums to spilt.
I asked a question I had there, and never got a single response from anyone.
And I usally don't have a problem getting a response.
Really no need to make mdx forum larger when it's obviously hard to get help there as it is.
Could be wrong now, since I have not been over there for 4-5 months or so.
If the needs come to make it bigger,Than I'm with it.
For some reason,I don't think so.
A few posts durring a day ,there is no need to split Just saying

Regardless of how many members there are that own an MDX, it still makes sense to have the model split up by generation just as every other model forum on AZ is split.

Sly, this time I disagree.

I'm not sure there is enough traffic to split the section. Besides are there that many questions/answers which don't apply to both vehicles?

My perspective is simply to keep things uniform so one person navigating the TL forum knows what to expect if they were to navigate any of the other vehicle sub-forums, but I understand your concern. If there isn't traffic going in there, why change it because it's not going to make a difference.

A split would be nice but not just yet. The MDX forum has been generating more traffic in the recent months. I'm sure we will split it up in the future when the traffic for both generations permits it.

The 2010 MDX has significant changes in technology and this has generated a lot of traffic lately so the differential is growing.
The MDX library is becoming vast and a generic search may return hundreds of responses of no value due to the changes over the years. The original MDX and the 2010 are about as close as a an X5 and an A7.

Agreed. The door isn't closed. It's just a matter of time.

Not only is the door not closed, it will remain open. The split will happen. It is just a matter of when.

Thanks for the input db22.

Bump. Any updates?

I find the mdx forum to be a mess when trying to browse. There really needs to be a split between the two generations (1g: 01-06, 2g: 07-12). With the third gen coming out in a couple years, a split is needed to keep things neat. Already the users in the mdx forum are using years or gen type in new thread titles just to stay somewhat organized. I don't own a mdx, but it still bugs the ocd side in me.

Split !
Besides being Acura best seller ...
The 1G and 2G are quite different and in 2013 you have 3G.

I think it's time too. There are many important and noticeable differences in the two generations.

The ILX gets its own section before its even out, but the MDX can't have a generation split lol. It would really clean things up.

Is this ever going to happen? It really makes no sense at all.

i inquired about the split a while ago, but "there wasn't enough traffic to warrant such a split."

with the 3rd gen coming out soon i think it would help clean up some of the confusion. i believe there are enough differences between the 1G and 2G and soon to be 3G to have sub sections. between the DIY's and the generation specific issues, now maybe a good time to introduce the sub sections of the MDX. perhaps, by doing so, we will generate MORE traffic for the MDX section. there are many TL owners who also have an MDX. it would be nice to actually have kind of an "all in one" forum.

i know there are many members with an MDX that also go over to the dedicated MDX forum (which is slow as well). certainly if there are issues (common car issues, not necessarily model specific), that can be posted and shared across a broader group of enthusiasts to provide insight.

I'm gonna keep bumping this until it happens. The MDX is Acura's bread and butter yet it gets rejected from having separate forums.

We've been discussing this in the moderator's forum.

It would be a physical impossibility to break out existing threads to 1G or 2G MDX, and initiating separate forums at this time would probably really mess things up.

I haven't been able to get a definitive answer but wikipedia says that the 3G MDX will start in 2014, at which time (hopefully before it comes out) we'll add the 3G subforum.

I'm open to informative discussion on this.

^^there is no way to "tag" the 2007-2013 (ie 2G MDX) within a thread (since most will post the year of their MDX) and then put it into a sub forum for 2G? same for the 1G MDX? just wondering (and thinking outloud). or how about just start a 1G and the2G sub forum for threads starting now and leave the other threads alone (like a general discussion).

the 3G MDX will most likely be out by summer or the latest...the fall.

Not a good idea because if someone wants to look for 1G or 2G information, he/she will have to search through BOTH the 1G or 2G AND ALSO the "general discussion" sub-forums. Very cumbersome.

Unless there is a sure and easy way to sort and separate out all respective 1G and 2G threads.

It's better to just leave the 1G/2G as it is now, and create the new 3G sub-forum latter in the year.

Can we at least have a separate 3rd gen section?

We're still working on that, and I have suggested in the moderators forum that we do just that, leaving 1G and 2G (2001-2013) in the existing forum and adding the 3G MDX (2014+) as a new forum.

This section is a complete mess. I'm guessing there is no progress on the split.

It's here.

Finally.

I will get started on moving threads.

Soon.

It will take several weeks for the model split to appear in the MDX banner button.

I've noticed that the MDX Banner 'drop down' menu does not show the 1&2G and 3G subsections. All the other models have drop down menus to navigate directly to the subsection you want.
