Forum Suggestion: Editing of Posts

Editing of Posts
I'm sure this one has been beaten to death - however I find it very odd AcuraZine does not enable posts to edit their posts after the ~15 minute window.
This has proved itself irritating for a For Sale thread I've created. The title and several key items prominently displayed in the first post have been sold and are no longer available. Members looking at my thread would be disappointed to find those items are sold (as updated ~20 posts down the thread...)
I cannot think of any reason to not allow users (or at least original posters specifically in the FS section) the ability to modify active posts. Every other forum I actively participate on allows the editing of posts:
Reddit - allows this functionality and has a far larger user base.
Honda-Tech
S2ki
HondaSociety
VWVortex
Mazda3Revolution
etc
I could continue posting forums but it really would just keep going without end. What's the reasoning behind this? Obviously there should be a cutoff made where a post is 'archived' but for an active post <1 month old there should be no limitation. Flag the post as having been modified "Edited by TheMuffinMan on 1/22/17 at 11:30PM" but allow it to happen.
Or accept requests for modifications to be done by the admins if you're not going to trust the user to do it.

The edit capability is set at 15 minutes for good reason, and we have explored other options extensively. This is not going to be changed.
The primary reason for this is that too many people posted something they eventually regretted saying, and, after receiving many controversial replies, edited their post, thereby rendering the rest of the thread incomprehensible. In the Black Market, people were editing their posts after complaints were received, making a meaningful investigation of any claims very difficult.
You will have to post all price updates, changes, pictures, etc. in the thread, and if I feel the information justifies an update I will take the necessary action. I do not usually update specific items that have been sold due to the workload involved, so your post will have to serve as notice that the item has been sold.
I'm sorry but there is no way to allow individual members to selectively edit their posts.
I do accept requests for modifications (in the Black Market only) and I sent you my rules for posting these requests.

Hi Ron A - my counter to your statement would be if Reddit, Honda-Tech, and the other hundreds automotive forums have been able to manage editing of posts outside of 15 minutes it either suggests the admin/moderation staff of AcuraZine is insufficient (by number or skill) or the correct policies have not been set. A one-man team (what it seems like to be honest) is definitely not sufficient for a forum this large.
Would be curious to get another admin's take other than your own as we have already conversed via copy/paste of policy in text.

Administrators and moderators are not here to edit posts for members except in unusual situations such as porn or offensive language, and we are all in agreement with the 15 minute rule and there is no need to consider changing that, so further discussion is not required.
We are not a one man team and we are definitely not lacking in qualifications. There are three administrators including astro, our supreme leader, and we have scads of moderators taking care of all of our diverse forums
Your argument is with me in the Black Market and my procedures are not going to change.
I edit extensively in Black Market posts and threads but there needs to be a cutoff somewhere and the information I provided you explains that.

to muffinman, try to categorize your forsale post and separate them into smaller groups making a few more threads yes but also making it easier for you to keep it up to date, and keep the other ppl posting to a limit of sorts and hopefully help you sell quicker.

I liked it when editing was only like 2 minutes.. less time for twats to change their posts.. we had more epic threads then too.

I agree with Muffin. I really like how other forums allow you to edit anytime. I hate when I go to post something, then remember after the close time that I forgot something or needed to change something. It forces us to have to edit what we want to say in another post. Users shouldn't be posting porn or offensive language to start. This could easily be handled by suspending offenders. Just my $.02.

Its also cuz too many people rage quit HT and deleted their write-ups or edited them with URLs to their own website.
