ZDX Tire Valve Accident
Good day Acura ZDX community. I have made a complete blunder today and need your help. Today as I was getting air in my rear passenger side tire (given my sensor being on) I mistakenly broke the tire valve stem and it is currently hanging from the tire. I went to the auto parts store and Oreilly associates told me I could just change the cap but the sensor would remain on until I took it to a mechanic. I opted to change it for myself for the time being but they did not have the tool to unscrew the valve. I went to autozone and got a totally different answer. They only would sell me the stem with the sensor attached for inside the tire. My most immediate need is to get the air level/pressure up to 30 because right now its at 25. I just need to know how do I change this part so that I can actually put air in my tire. Any help would be huge!

Unless you have picked up a nail in your tire, my guess is the reason your dash pressure warning was on is because your sensor device inside is leaking and will continue to lose air even if you ARE able to repair only the stem. Apparently, this is common after they get old. If your tires are at all worn and replacement could be thus justified, then you should likely consider ‘biting the bullet’ and just get 4 new sensors installed at the same time. Much less inconvience than constantly having to add air, and with winter coming the time is right for new tread anyway. |
All tires are practically new. The rear tire had a nail and it got fixed. Not sure why it was leaking again. Looking to get a quick fix to give a little more time. By any chance can I just replace it for now?

I think on replacing valve sensors you Install sensor and follow the OEM factory relearn procedure. For me that sounds beyond my patience and repair skills but if you want to tackle it try googling it. Or just take it to shop and just get the one fixed for now. |

From the photo it looks like the stem is broken off? I'm not certain, but the stem and sensor might be one component judging by figure 5 here. The stem and sensor also appear to be a single component (part 6) here. While parts 9, 10, and 11 might be replaceable on their own, the part that looks broken in your photo appears to be a single component. If that's the case, the Autozone people seem to be correct and you would have to replace the whole TPMS. Hope this helps :) Cheers |
^^^^^ you are correct it's one unit mounted INSIDE THE RIM.
Must replace TPMS unit Need a place that has a tire machine and best bet is an oem sensor. Buy online save $$$ then to reliable tire store to install. If use OEM will learn in a few minutes of driving Usually happens when some type metal valve cap is used and the two metals GALL If you have such caps throw them away for cheap plastic ones. Or use something.to prevent Galling. |
