Things That Make You Go Hmmm About The ZDX

Why is the dashboard trim piece missing on the right side of the instrument cluster?

Why they discontinued it rather than re-imagining it. I believe the biggest reason it flopped was the styling. The GLE/C Coupe and X4/6 are doing very well so it’s not the overall styling but rather how over the top it was. They really should have made a 2G model but toned it down and cleaned it up.

Zen Driving Xperience... and my hmmmmm.....why did Acura not further develop the J37A5 for more HP and torque....damn it would be better at 325 and 300, but oh well....

I hear you, but it's what it is in its only version and I love that about this car

Don’t get me wrong, I really like the ZDX styling. I just see a few areas where they could have improved it (i.e upped the roof-line so it wouldn’t be so low in the rear and maybe shortened it so it wasn’t so long looking). Otherwise just modernize it a bit. I LOVE the GLE-Coupe. Really want one someday.

You do know that there was a flaw in the ringlands of the J37's pistons, leading to burning/consuming of oil?

Baked ZDX-tra cheese, please.

It was an interesting car; I liked that it was a 5 door / hatch, but it was too jacked up for my taste.

I recently went to pickup an old friend I hadn’t seen for years. Called him on my cell to announce impending arrival, and he said he would wait out front of his home for me. I told him I would be driving a white SUV. When I pulled up, he looked right through me until I finally honked. No way he thought such a stylish vehicle qualified as an SUV!

For the J37A4, well-aware of the sometimes present oil consumption issue. Some folks, like me, had the short block replaced on their J37A4 TL's, through "good will" by Acura. I was not aware that Acura had definitively determined the cause, given that some J37A4's never experienced the "blow by", and some, like mine, did. I know that Acura at one point was seeking real world examples of the condition in the J37A5, but I am not aware that those examples exist. My 2010 J37A5 consumed between .25 and .75 of a quart every 3,000 miles. My 2006 CRV goes through 1 QT every 3K miles. Going to check the 2013 J37A5 example, as I am approaching 1,000 since the last oil change.

So, not disagreeing with you, but stating that Honda could have addressed this condition, if it existed, and improved the performance, with further development of the A5.

My point was... They tried to up the horsepower, but didn't end well. Canned it and moved on to turbos to reach those power levels

OK, point taken. I'm content then with the J37A5 as is. I prefer natural aspiration over "phony" air anyway. Thanks for the information...
