Extended Warranties -- Are they any good? Scam?
Looking at an extended warranty for my 2006 Acura RSX Type 6, with 88K. Anyone out there with any experience re waste of money or worth the cash -- really just want to protect against major costs that can't be anticipated.

I used to think they were scams, until I had a major recall/breakdown on my 4Runner that saved me over a thousand bucks, which was more than what I paid for the warranty by rolling it into my payments so it can help out.

I think they're scams, the first and last time i had one, they never payed up! Not when I needed a trans, nor when the engine was misfiring! They were too cheap to even replace a leaky radiator hose!
All of these problems, and more, were of course on the worlds most reliable car...
A toyota
my tl never gave me any big problems...

It's all about WHO is providing the warranty and WHO will do the work.
If it's from the manufacturer, especially in our case Honda/Acura I think they're worth it. Usually they are cheap (under $1000) for a couple more years of bumper to bumper coverage.
I've had Advantage on two used cars, I didn't need to use it. However, others I know with the same warranty coverage and company did and did not have any sort of problem. In their case, no deductible and no paperwork.

If you take good care of your RSX, you won't need any serious work til maybe 150k miles
the only issues our cars have is the power steering reservoir leak, sometimes the ac compressors go bad, and the PS pump gets noisy, all of those are pretty inexpensive repairs. the drivetrain is pretty bulletproof.
if you have a BMW, a warranty is definitely ideal
