to buy or not to buy

I am looking at a 2006 RSX, it has 250,00 miles and my neighbor is selling it for $1000. he has taken good care of it over the years. what should i look for when i test drive it/inspect it? have driven fords all my life so im not sure what to look for.

feel out the shifter. any grinding/popout going into 2nd/3rd? check under the hood for any oil leaks, etc, same stuff as you would any used car. RSX's tend to be fairly bulletproof aside from the issues with the shifter. it's high mileage for sure, but 1000 is cheap. any pics?

sean, its a used car.
you're going to be looking for used car things, like...is it burning or eating oil? does the transmission shift okay? are the suspension components(tie rods, compliance bearings, etc) in good shape? any abnormal tire wear? does the A/C work? does it meet your expectations of a $1k car?

at the price point its at, $1k, I cant say things will be in good working order.
but thats why you have to inspect the car.
if there's any major red flags, like leaking oil or transmission acting funny, it will be your decision to either go ahead with the purchase or decline

If it's inspected, the tires arent bald, dowsnt leak excessively, and drives straight with proper power that is all he needs to ask $1000 IMHO. It could have many cosmetic defects and non working luxury pieces and still be worth a grand I would say. That is about as low as a 2000s era acura goes from what I have seen. Ow if the trans is bad or the engine is making noise then yeah i'd pass, but in this price range there will be serious issues, thats the nature of cheap cars. My last $1000 car was a doozy. Drove it for 6,000 miles without putting a cent into it other than gas and then scrapped it for $300 LOL

Pretty much if it runs and drives, I'd buy it on the spot. $1000 for a reliable A to B car is great. Anything else is a plus, IMO. An even more added bonus is the seller is your neighbor. Most likely, they aren't trying to cheat you and you're getting what you pay for
