3.5 V6 swap doable in RSX ?
Is it ?
Ive seen it done in civics, tho I don't know how much they had to cut and redo bodywork.
Wondering about this since I'm looking to build a rsx for racing purposes and evaluating my options, my previous ride was turboed so im looking to get something n/a this time and the 4 just doesn't seem to have enough power to me...

As far as costs goes, thats pretty much why I'm looking to see if someone else has done it because most of the time alot of pieces from other cars/models are gonna make it possible with minimum custom fabs keeping the costs down. So if a few ppl that have done it can chime in to point out what availlable part can be used in the build it saves a lot of time, trouble and cost.
Its already done in the nissan comunity for the sentra proving that its possible even in a small bay. Why not just build the sentra that I already know how to, well just because I've been riding in one for over 6 years and its just not as reliable and I've kinda seen enough of the sentra as of now.
If no one has done it well I'll probably just go with a different setup or different car as I don't really want to do all the RnD for this since it's not something i'm going to sell or do for other people.

Yeah what I would do is do a K24 swap, then turbo/supercharge it and you will have a very fast car... depending on how much boost you run etc... But of course 300-400WHP is very doable depending how much you can spend.

Thing is the J35 could probably put down 260 270 hp and 230 240 tq to the wheels with the right bolts, I know the either k20 or 24 can do it with boost but the reliability of that setup is an unknown to me and considering I've put way more time and $ maintaining than building on the boosted nissan im not sure its all worth it in the end. Ofc nissan has nothing to do with honda but even then, the V6 is designed to make that power and the L4 is just not meaning one way or another staying N/A is going to be more reliable and considering I'm looking to race it every weekend or two for a couple of years I would pretty much like not blowing an engine or a tranny every season and am ready to sacrifice some performance for reliability. As I said if it's not possible for the RSX I will be looking for another car wich would probably be either a bmw 328 or a TL. I was looking at the RSX since its a smaller car therefore lighter and would probably have a better feeling in the twisties with proper hardware. Neways I'm still looking around for ppl who have done it, I might be interested in the k24 if it can do interesting n/a power reliably but it's not a platform of which I have a wide knowledge of considering I used to be more in the nissan comunity But I just got tired of crappy quality products. So I'll be looking it up as well.

After a little research I havent been able to find much about the k24's n/a potential since most of the builds I've seen that were written about in here were turboed/sced or no data at all in them.
As far as the V6 goes everyone seems to agree it's not been done before so i'm guessing that wont be the way to go for me.
I'm still interested as to what the potential of the K24 is tho in its n/a form that is.
I guess if I want to go with a v6 in a compact car I'll have to stick to the nissan sentra where I know I can get a pretty decent racing machine for under 20k

Just putting this out there but if your using it as a track car the weight distribution is already 61/39 F/R.
I imagine with the v6 it will be even more front biased.

The 4 can make plenty of power NA, it just depends on if you want to daily the car or if it's going to be strictly a track car. It'd say for a daily driver you can make 300whp all motor with a K24, there have been builds done before that have made much more but they are not daily driven street cars. In fact, I'm willing to beat in a year or so you'll see 400whp NA out of the K series. Guys are making 330-350whp now w/ c16 or e85, ton of compression, huge cams, ITB's or AFI w/ 90mm TB and usually a 2.4 block that is no longer a 2.4, more than likely it's been bored or stroked to 2.6-2.7 liters. But like I said, depends on if you are daily driving the car or if it's going to be your race car that you can run 15:1 compression w/ some fat cams and not worry about driving the car every day.

N/a k24 builds have netted > 300 whp reliably and they won't add all that addl weight. A reliably tuned low boost k20/ k24 will also net you a decently torquey light car .
In any case, don't forget to upgrade clutch and consider other tranny upgrades, the tranny seems to be the rsx's weakest link in terms of putting power down. An LSD is also helpful , one wheeled torque steer sucks.

It would make sense that the weight distribution would be all front, but since it would be an all track car, gutting the non essentials towards the front, and possibly placing ballast on the rear would make a difference;not to mention your likely going to slam the front end and put sticky tires on~ traction would feel so great! : )

2 - Cooling is always an issue with Jswaps
3 - fabrication for drivetrain
4 - too much torque for front wheels, especially road racing
we have a few jswapped cars here in phoenix, all have been for drag racing, all of them are slower than built K series, we even have a b series running 8s.
My question is why would you WANT to do it?
1 - Makes the car a LOT heavier
2 - Cooling is always an issue with Jswaps
3 - fabrication for drivetrain
4 - too much torque for front wheels, especially road racing

Cooling can be fixed
As far as too much torque for front wheels go, there are turbo TLs out there and I dont rly think its much more TQ than with a turbo K engine

Not sure why you would want to swap a V6 in an rsx. I've driven a J35 EK before. It was miserable. Just boost the K20 and call it a day.
