Question Material of the hood

Hello everyone. Who knows, if the hood of Acura ILX 2014 is made of steel or aluminium? Thanks in advance!

I don't know for sure but the 2016+ (MMC) is steel so I'm pretty sure the pre-MMC is also steel.

Wiki says "The ILX's body in white uses 59% high strength steel ranging from 440-980 MPa yield strength grades, aluminum is used for the hood and front bumper beam"

Crap! This can be a problem. Are there owners of ILX 2014 on the forum? Can you just put a magnet on the hood and say if it sticks or no?

On my 2016 ILX, there is no way it's aluminum. It's so heavy. On my RL, which does have aluminum hood, the hood is so light I can lift it with one finger. Aluminum is also more expensive than steel for body panels.

the verbiage used "Front/rear bumper beam" indicates it's not full aluminium, if at all. just the beams.

This 2" magnet doesn't find my 2016 hood attractive

Interesting. My RL's hood is so light that I can lift it up with one finger. The ILX's hood is really heavy by comparison.

Hmm. RL does have a gas strut to hold up the hood. Maybe that's it.
