Review on first road trip with a 2016
Okay, we've had our 2016 ILX for a month or so and we finally took our first real trip in it. It was a last minute decision for a weekend drive down to San Diego from the Bay Area to visit our daughter in college and to also take in a Giants vs Padres game (we lost!). Over all, a 1,000 miles round trip.
Although I've never owned a "nicer" car let alone an Acura, I felt the car was very comfortable to drive and to me any road noise wasn't really noticeable. I think never having owned a high end car that's known for a quiet drive such as higher end Acura, BMW, Audi etc. I didn't really have any preconceived dreams of a perfectly quiet ride. To me nothing was really noticeable.
From the start I as a little worried about driving this far at night without having a spare tire to rely on. My spare tire kit is still on order. The drive to San Diego was almost entirely on Interstate 5 where the speed limit is 70 MPH but of course everyone drives much faster. Passing a few cars broken down at night with flat tires certainly made me think a little.
I drove around 75 to 80 MPH for most of the trip and was surprised at how well the gas mileage did. I averaged something like 36 MPG and at times hit 37. A nice surprise having just sold my wife's Ford Expedition that got 15 MPG!
Although I only used the Acura iPhone navigation app a few times, the system worked well and we didn't have any issues. Everything was spot on.
The ILX's performance in going up and down the Interstate 5 "Grape Vine" was a breeze, sailed right up without missing a beat and almost no need for braking on the long decent down the grade.
One of the reasons why we picked the ILX was because of it's size, like most of us, I hate to park a nice vehicle (even my F150) in parking lots and always tend to park away from everyone else. In the crowded hotel parking garage the car was easy to park without overly worrying about door dings.
We zipped around San Diego all weekend and had a great time with the car, no problems at all and found the car to fun to drive. As for gasoline, I know the manual suggests premium unleaded fuel but I switched off between all the different octane levels and really didn't notice any performance difference with either. I'm guessing I'll switch off in octane levels simply because of the fuel cost here in California.
For what it's worth, we loved the car and didn't have any problems or concerns. For us, the ILX model works well.

^^ Thanks for posting your information and it is great to see that your ILX is performing really well and it is indeed turning good fuel mileage number. I tend to agree with you that smaller and more compact cars tend to be fun and more nimble which enhances the driving experience. Makes us feel more connected with the road.

Thanks for the review, yeah it sucks that the Giants lost, oh well, its still only april. Congrats on the car! Btw, don't pay too much attention to the guy above me, he's a known troll around here. 36-37MPG is about 10 more MPG than I get on my TSX.

Might even get 38mpg with just full synthetic and premium all the time. You are making the car's computer have to constantly adjust for different octane, making the car less efficient (although it is designed to be able to do this).
Bigger wheels can actually easily still get better MPG then stock wheels. You never said the weight or the width. If they are lighter, that's an improvement, if they are wider, (not past a certain point tho, depends on car) then more traction. Means 36-37 mpg can go up to an easy 38mpg (maybe even more others have posted 40mpg) with 3 things - 1)Full synthetic oil (not trying to hate, but I get a sense if OP is switching off on premium and regular gas, he's not a full synthetic kinda guy), 2)lighter wheels, 3)wider (but not too wide) wheels.
*** also GENERALLY speaking, premium gets better fuel economy, because it is higher octane ( and if the car is tuned to best perform at a certain octane). So OP - stop being cheap brah. You're hurting your own MPG and making yourself fill up more often LOL.

Dude you're obviously trolling. This is an ILX review. Did anyone ask you anything about Diesel engines? No, right? Go away then.
No one came here to hear about Diesel engines. People are comparing TSX, TLX and ILX becasue they are SIMILAR cars. You're totally missing the point, or trolling.

TSX IS a nice car. BUT - in other countries its an Accord. Big whoop. Just like my ILX is (frame wise and because of the k24 engine) a Civic SI at heart.

Yes. The same place that Honda trusts to build the NSX - their high end exotic - must be a shithole. You make so much sense. Tell me more, please.
ILX designed in America - so now it's crap? LOLZ, RIGHT... ILX frame and drivetrains are based off of the Civic's.

Did I say ANYTHING about the suspension being the same? NO.
ILX, TSX, TLX, and Accord are all SIMILAR cars, they share the same or similar engines. In fact, As i already stated - TSX IS AN ACCORD. Therefore, people shopping around and looking at different cars will test drive and compare and contrast trim levels and driving experiences, Pro's and Con's of each car, etc. You're just a failed troll. Go away now.

**** Tesla Model S HAS NO OIL CHANGE. Fuck yo' couch, and fuck yo' 30k oil interval.
In fact, I can have a a 25K interval in my "lowly" ILX.
