What's up guys my name is Danny, I'm a student at U of H study for computer engineering & getting rid of my Silverado for this Acura ILX. I normally don't join forums but I feel the ILX community is so small so any addition is a good thing for us. Not too much is in store for it soon but I would like to do a lot of small stuff now and get to the suspension and wheel upgrade later this year. Enough talking,

Plan on getting HIDs for fogs soon not sure whether 3000K or 6000k

This happened not even a week of ownership! People at UH can't drive AT ALL.
Police can't do anything other than file a report. Camera didn't reach to where I was parked. Even if it did the cameras are horrible quality all you would see is a big blob of car.
Stay tuned I plan on getting tint this week, and other small mods to come.

Hey Danny, congratulations and welcome! I'm glad you felt compelled to join the forum. You're right, we're a pretty small group right now. Silver moon - nice choice! Really sorry to hear about the front bumper damage already but it looks like it could potentially be cleaned up a bit just with some heavy duty buffing.

Did you pick up the 2.0 or the 2.4? Be sure to sign in here at the Sign-In thread. Again, welcome to the family and I hope you enjoy the car.

Gotcha, just did the sign-in. It's a 2.0 Premium. Yea I was hoping it could be buffed out, even though it's minor it seems like its so much more damage since its a brand new car.

Welcome Danny! Glad you decided to join us!
I debated whether or to get the silver as well, but I ended up getting white. And I love it

Oh! And if you're having a hard time picking a color. I'm installing HIDs for my fogs this weekend. I will be changing both my headlights and fogs to 6000k. Hopefully I'll have some pics up.

And definitely pick up dark tint first! Best and first addition I did for my ILX.

Thanks everyone for the hospitality! Ha.
Yea If i get 6K Fogs I'll be getting 6000K for lows, otherwise I might keep it OEM or get 5K with 3000K Fogs & the tint is getting done as we speak
Mods to come soon are a 10" Sundown I have with a 1000 watt amp, I just need to make a box and tune it the way I want, probably buy a sound processor instead of just doing a line output converter.
some second skin sound deadner in the trunk is needed, I don't want my trunk shaking like a stripper.

Got the windows tinted. Wanted to keep it conservative and sort of even throughout. 25% up front about 20% in the rear and back.

I forget what I got for tint, but its very dark hahaha.

Here are the pics I promised. Got them done today. Sorry for the poor quality pics. These were taken with my Samsung Galaxy S2 because I dont own a camera yet, so the color looks a bit green. They ARE supposed to be a light blue/white
The Headlights are 6000k
The Fog Lights are 6000k HIDs.
I also changed my Highbeams/DRLs to 7000k
, which changed the bulb color to blue which is why the inside looks blue.
Also, if you're planning to do both 6k, keep in mind that since the headlights are projectors it will be a little off colored in comparison to the fogs.

Wow, I am impressed! And, you would be really surprised what a good buff and polish can take out!

Welcome to the forum and keep up the mods! I like the 6k/6k did you do an HID kit for the fogs or LEDs?

For the fogs! My buddy got them for me as a birthday gift, and I barely got a chance to install them!

The headlights are HIDs but he switched to 6000k where I think stock is 5000k. The foglights are just regular ol' lights.. I would think HIDs in the fogs would look incredibly bright since they don't have that frosting over the lens like the headlights. My TSX had a clear lens on the headlights

the fogs dont have a projector like the headlights do; not because one is frosted and the other is clear...

FYI, there is a downpipe that should add power to this car...it was released by Megan racing for the 2012 civic, which uses the r18 (r20 is just a stroked version of that).

...........

I don't know how to articulate to you what I was getting at.

HID foglights are usually just super bright.. I know that one is a projector and one is just a regular lamp. The frosting comment was more just an add on about how the TSX has clear lenses and the ILX is frosted looking.

I guess I should of said.. I dont really see any blinding issues with the ILXs headlights like I did with the TSX (constantly having people flash their brights at me) and the foglights will probably do that.

It had nothing to do with me not knowing which is what.

Those hids look good, but I've been looking at other cars and I think I wanna go with 3000k fogs, 5000 or 6000k lows & yellow drls. Stand out a little but not look ricer. Plus light colored cars look good with yellow fogs,
Did you install the hids? Was it difficult if you did?

Thanks for the down pipe info I'm going to definitely look into that. Next mods are yellow fogs, sound deaden the trunk and install my 10" sundown sub

The trunk is really easy to pull apart and sound deaden! It was the easiest part for me.

Yellow fogs can look nice. I wouldn't go HID for the 3k.. you can save money and get some nice yellow bulbs for like $20 and since it's yellow you'll get the desired result.

Personally, I wanted to go 6000k lows, and 3000k fogs. But I mentioned they were a gift, so I had no choice in the matter!

And no i did not install the HIDs. I am terrible with tools and have little knowledge on working on cars.

Now that you have the HID kit setup for the fogs it would be easy enough to switch to a 3k bulb down the road

Hahaha! True that.

Oh! Quick question guys. Does anybody know if the 2012 civic Window visors fit on our car? From Weather-Tech of course.

I haven't tested them.. however I am gonna go out on a limb and say no. The dimensions of the windows are significantly different from Civic to ILX.

Trent, Is this a pretty good bang for your buck? Did you notice a reasonable difference in overral road noise/exhaust noise after adding the dynamat (spelling?) to the trunk?

The exhaust note is completely eliminated in my car. The sounds I hear still are 1) front tire howl 2) engine 3) window wind & my driver window rattles..

It was worthwhile in my opinion. More bang out of doing your rear deck and doors though

I might do that. I've heard mixed reviews about just getting the 3000k bulbs (i think it was Nokya), I'll do a little more research but i was leaning towards getting the whole h11 hid kit from theretrofitsource.com, i think a good 35W kit whole do it justice.

Nothign wrong with a kit. I just had yellow halogens in my cobra's fogs for a few months.. looked indentical to a friend 3K set, his were just brighter.. which wasn't actually pleasant to me. I really just don't like uber bright fogs personally. But, if you got the dough, SPEND IT!

My first thought when I was going to add the HIDs was that it was going to overpower my headlights a bit. But I think it came out perfect, its bright but not the blinding type. It came out better than I expected. OH! And for those who want to change their license plate leds. Go for white! Sorry, for the dirty car, it recently rained in my area, two weeks after I got it detailed. God damnit.

Are you into that "stance" look? I am trying to work out the math as to getting a concave wheel where there is no rub, pull or shaving involved.. We can easily do a higher offset 8.5 width wheel. Even a higher offset 9 inch wheel

Yea i love that look. It's just so aggressive and mean. I would love to get volks but they're way to expensive.

I'd like to see if vossen wheels would look good on this car, but those require some wide wheels to get that "vossen" stanced look. the smallest CV3's are 19 x 8.5 which is probably the biggest you'll be able to fit without modification?? (I think the Sema ILX had 19 x 8.5 volks but i forgot the offset)

Actually.. 9th Gen Civic guys are fitting 9" widths @ 18" and 17" without rolls or shaving (depending on offset obviously)..

Right now I am personally between the TE37SL Pressed Graphite 17x9 +22
Or
VOLK G25 (Black/Silver) 18x8.5 +44 (which is for sure no roll, no cut, drop and no problem)

The SEMA car was 19x8.5 +45 and they actually used 5mm spacers in the front and 7mm in the back. I talked to Evasive Motorsports and by looking at it their drop was pretty mild too..
I am pretty convinced I want either O.Z., Work, or Volk .. from least to greatest level of desire. From what I understand the ILX is a tad bit wider than the Civic, that might mean I can fit a 17x9 in there with an aggressive offset and a mild stretch. I am not dropping past 2" so I am just calculating and hoping..

If you decide to try a to go stanced.. 19 is probably a bit too big, I'd go 18 for the safety of your fenders, tires, ect.

*** Looking at it too if you got those CV3s in 19x8.5 and close to a 40/45 offset you could probably get away with murder on a 215 or MAYBE even a 225 tire.. completely dependent on how low you drop it.
