Exclamation Acura ILX Recall News

Honda is recalling 172,200 small SUVs and cars in the U.S. because the doors may not close.

The recall affects 166,000 CR-V SUVs from the 2012 model year and 6,200 Acura ILX small luxury cars from the 2013 model year.

Honda says that if the inside driver or passenger door handles are used at the same time as the power or manual door locks, the inner door latch may not work. This means a door may not latch, or it could latch and open when the locks are used.

The company says no crashes injuries have been reported because of the problem.

Honda says dealers will inspect the cars and fix them if needed. Owners should get letters from the company starting in mid-August.

Ah, so that must be it. I'm in for service on the TSX at my local dealer and just overheard a sales meeting regarding a stop sale on the ILX.

That is almost a certainty; the total YTD sales number was reported to be 1,250 a couple weeks back.

Statement by American Honda Regarding Front Door Latch Recall: 2012 Honda CR-V and 2013 Acura ILX

American Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 166,000 model-year 2012 CR-V vehicles and approximately 6,200 model-year 2013 Acura ILX vehicles in the United States to replace both front door latches and, in some CR-V vehicles, the interior front door handles. Simultaneous operation of the driver’s or passenger’s inner door handle and either the manual or power door lock may result in the inner door handle release cable becoming partially disengaged. When this occurs the door may not latch when closed and/or the door may latch and close, but then open when the door locks are operated; either case may result in the affected door opening unexpectedly. No accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of all affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in mid-August 2012. In mid-August, owners of these vehicles also will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going on-line to www.recalls.honda.com and www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (800) 999-1009 for Honda owners or (800) 382-2238 for Acura owners, and selecting option 4.

They'd delivered 6,200 ILX's??? So that is pretty much 2 months of production. At least they are producing at a ~40,000 units per year rate assuming they are not quite up to full rate. Let's see if sales will match. I know my two Acura dealers now seem to have a good stock of ILX's on hand.

I believe the 6200 figure is the number of affected vehicles and includes those unsold in dealer inventory not just the amount delivered.

I think we are saying the same thing... they've built 6,200 (both sold and unsold). I wasn't meaning delivered to buyers. I meant delivered to dealers. Sorry for the confusion.

Acura is recalling some 2013 and 2014 ILX and ILX Hybrid sedans for headlights that are too hot.

Under certain conditions, the headlamps do not allow sufficient heat dissipation when the vehicle is not in motion. Add engine heat and ambient summer heat, and the headlamps could cause damage to the reflector unit. In extreme conditions, the headlights may overheat and could cause smoke, melting or fire.

The fix

On affected vehicles, Acura will replace both the left and right headlight assemblies with new, improved ones that dissipate and handle the heat better. Plan on leaving the vehicle for the day for the repair--it involves removing the vehicle's front bumper to gain access to the headlight assemblies.

Acura is managing this recall by VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and will be sending out notification letters to owners starting July, 2014.

To determine if a vehicle is involved in this recall, call local dealers with the vehicle in question's VIN. For more info or answers to questions regarding this recall call Acura Client Services at 800-382-2238 or the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) at 888-327-4236, and reference Acura recall # 14-018 entitled: Recall - Potential Headlamp Overheating, Fires.

Per a thread on the "Acura ILX Owners & Enthusiasts" page on Facebook, this applies only to base models with halogen low-beam headlights. Premium and Tech models with HIDs are not subject to the recall.

Acura ILX Recall Issued to Replace Driveshafts

Acura recalls 58,000 ILX cars that may roll away or lose power from driveshaft problems.

July 4, 2019 — An Acura ILX recall for more than 58,000 cars has been ordered to replace right driveshafts and halfshafts so the cars don't roll away.

About 50,000 model year 2016-2019 ILX cars are affected in the U.S. and more than 8,300 are recalled in Canada.

In addition to rollaway dangers, the cars could lose motive power while driving.

The automaker received a claim about a car that lost motive power in 2015 and concluded the ILX was assembled incorrectly. Acura changed the assembly line training in March 2016 and thought the matter was over.

But another report was received in October 2017 on a car that was built after the assembly line changes were made.

The automaker opened another investigation and identified abnormal driveshaft grease used by the supplier which was more than 3 times above specifications.

The automaker says excessive grease application on the right driveshaft may prevent the set-ring on the halfshaft from fully engaging the driveshaft. The driveshaft can separate from the halfshaft if the set-ring is not fully engaged.

A separated driveshaft will disable motive power and allow a vehicle to be shifted int0 the PARK position to roll away if the parking brake isn't engaged.

As of the end of May, Acura has received 156 warranty claims and 78 field reports, but no crashes or injuries have been reported.

Acura dealers will inspect the right driveshafts and if they aren't fully set to the halfshafts, technicians will replace both the driveshafts and halfshafts.

Acura will mail recall notices in July, but owners of 2016-2019 ILX cars may call the automaker at 888-234-2138.

Honda, Acura issue 3 recalls totaling more than 1.4M cars

Honda Badge

Robert Duffer Senior Editor

December 16, 2020Honda announced on Tuesday the recall of approximately 1,450,000 cars ranging from old to new models for 3 separate issues.

Body Control Module recall

The largest recall of 737,000 cars affects the newest models. The 2018-2020 Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid, as well as certain 2019-2020 Honda Insights need a software update to the Body Control Module. An unspecified combination of "driver actions and vehicle conditions can disrupt the electrical communication between various components, resulting in the illumination of warning lights. Additionally, the backup camera, turn signals, and windshield wipers can malfunction, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Honda reported no injuries or crashes related to the issue. Owners will receive notification of this recall in the latter half of January, 2021.

Front driveshaft recall

The 2nd largest recall affects 430,000 Honda and Acura vehicles, but the scope of the recall is restricted to 22 "salt belt states," Honda said. The left and/or right driveshafts can corrode prematurely due to faulty protective coatings at the point of assembly. If the driveshaft breaks, bad things happen in these front-wheel drive vehicles. Specifically, the affected vehicles can lose power or roll while in park if the parking brake is not engaged.

Long-term exposure to road salt used in CT, DC, DE, IL, IN, IA, KY, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VT, VI, WV, WI causes the problem identified in the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid, 2007-2014 Honda Fit, 2013-2015 Acura ILX, 2013 Acura ILX Hybrid, and 2013-2015 Honda Accord.

Again, Honda reported no injuries or crashes related to the issue. Owners will receive notification of this recall in the early part of February, 2021. Repair parts are not yet available.

2002-2006 Honda CR-V recall

Approximately 268,000 CR-Vs need to go back to dealerships to repair a power window master switch. Sounds like a trifle for a car approaching 20 years old, but if liquids such as rainwater or spilled anything enter the master switch on the driver's door, it can eventually cause the switch to overheat, melt, and smoke. Where there's smoke, there's fire: Honda reported 16 switch fires regarding a similar prior recall. The new recall supersedes the old 1 to correct the failures of those repaired switches.

Owners will receive notification of this recall in the latter half of January, 2021.

For all 3 recalls, owners can check the recall status of their vehicles by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
