ILX MPG numbers?

So our cars are rated at 22 city/31 hwy mpg, which I thought was pretty dang low.

After owning the car for a few months shy of 3 years and 52k miles later, I've come to find its way, way higher.

Am I the only one that's pretty surprised by how well our cars are on MPG?

I drive a 50-mile round trip hell commute through downtown LA, and get about 31-33mpg on 20% city, 80% highway but about 90% traffic.

average MPH would help us and help you better understand...because we dont know what 20% city means...
so, if your average speed is 50mph, then of course you'll get great gas mileage!!!

if your average speed is below 20mph, it means you're stuck in traffic.
and if average speed is above 60MPH, means you're speed racing everywhere

I just checked right now haha.

So currently on about 240 miles on my recent fillup, it's at 34.6 MPG, averaging 26 MPH.

^i made up those numbers for examples only...
now we have base line...26MPH = 34.6MPG

so, now you can compare to other ILX'ers who also give their Average MPH and MPG

My average speed is about 25MPH and average MPG is usually 28-30. I drive in congested San Jose traffic.

Well I work in DTLA and live in Culver City. I have a 2013 2.4 that I don't drive lightly.

26mph = 32-34mpg
25mph = 30mpg
16mph = 20mpg

Let's keep the list going!
also, this way...one of you will know if the car isnt performing well in regards to MPG...all you have to do is match up MPH to see

Ah that's not too bad of a commute. I drive pretty light, pretty much try to minimize the amount of times I press the clutch or brake and just roll in traffic. But of course open ramp or street, I'll crack vtec occasionally.

Everyday
120km
90% highway
average speed 80-90kmh (most of time 100-120 kmh cruising... )
fuel efficiency 5.8-6.3L /100km

MY2017 currently at 22k km
i think ilx is pretty fuel efficient...

One thing to note is the readout seems to read high for MPG calculations. I've compared my readout to my actual calculation at the pump, and the readout was consistently 10% or so high. Before I moved I had 56k miles at about 37mph average and a 34.7mpg readout, but my actual mpg was around 31. Since moving and considerably changing my driving habits, I have 10k miles at 26mph average and a 29.7mpg readout, 27mpg actual. 2013 2.4.

I have a 2016 Tech Plus Aspec and haven't reset my trip B meter since around the 600 miles mark so it's got 4.5k miles on it. It currently reads 30.3mpg at an average speed of 37mph. I do around 30% city and 70% hwy with a decent amount of traffic at times. I usually cruise around 75-85mph on the hwy when there isn't stop and go traffic. I usually redline it ten times a day and have been driving in sport mode cruising around 3-3.5k RPM when it's cooler out to get the oil life down a bit. My oil life meter is still at 40% and I have to change it in a month to stay within one year as required by the warranty.

I let my dad use it recently to put more miles on it since he commutes 100 miles a day. After around 300 miles Trip A meter read 38.4mpg at 62mph. His commute is traffic free with 20% city and 80% hwy but the city parts are suburbs doing 45 and rural one lane in each direction doing 55. He did pretty much the same with a tank during winter and it was 10% lower. I also noticed my mileage was 10% lower on winter gas (I'm in California).

I did a test recently where I drove on the interstate with absolute no traffic for a little over 100 miles with pretty much no elevation change. I reset the trip meter once I got up to speed and got 37.2mpg at 78mph. On the return trip I stayed in the right lane and got 40.4mpg at 64mph.

The car's mpg calculation is spot on compared to the manual way. It's less than 0.1% off. I did about half a dozen manual calculations at the beginning but stopped since the car is usually only off by 0.02mpg to 0.03mpg.

Dang so for the most part, pretty good numbers. I'm taking my ILX to Vegas so I'm curious how it'll do with a fresh oil change, tire rotation and new filter.

Those 8 gears help a lot in returning the high MPG. When you're driving 60-65 MPH, the RPM is about 1500 in 8th gear, which is great for highway cruising. I think you can easily get >40 MPG like that.

The best MPG number I ever got from MY16 ILX was when I drove from Cambridge to Downtown Toronto on a highway; 4.7L / 100KM (50.05 mpg!). I was driving 100 - 105 km/hr.

I racked up 88,000 km on the odometer already and kinda know what kind of MPG I can expect from my ILX.

Cruising 95 - 105 km/hr = 5.0 -5.5L/ 100km
105 - 115 km/hr = 5.5 - 5.9L/ 100km
120km/hr = 6.0L/ 100km

Thanks for the MPG conversion haha! My brain likes to turn off when it comes to converting from metric..

Looks like the '16 & up ILXs are returning good mpgs.
Where my stick-shift 2.4 owners at?

I drive about 75ish miles/day at least. I live in San Jose and commute to Hayward, my average speed is probably 70-75mph and I get around 30-36mpg.

I'm also in San Jose and do a mix of city and highway driving. Based on the trip computer's "history of Trip A" I seem to be consistently getting 28-30 MPG. I drive with a pretty light foot but it's the constant stop-n-go that kills the MPG. Same reason my RL gets about 18 MPG. Just to clarify, that's with a light foot. Example, I'm usually the slowest guy accelerating and I'm coasting up to the next traffic signal. Never understood why people gun it when the light turns green, just to stomp on the brakes a couple blocks down. I prefer to drive at or below the speed limit so I can coast a lot.
