ILX Door Sills
While vacuuming the car yesterday, my vacuum tipped over and landed on my driver side door sill, giving me my first tiny "ding" on the car.
Went to my body shop guy a short while ago. Said it would run between $80-$100 to get the tiny ding out (have to go underneath the sill). It's tiny but it's just killing me.
Guess it's a good reason to purchase some door sills, in order to kill two birds with one stone.
My question would be, are there any alternative less expensive generic Acura door sills that would/should fit the ILX? I know a poster on here got the OEM illuminated sills which were a pain for the dealer to install and are $355 + install.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

what makes the door sills a pain is the wiring of them...you can choose not to wire them...

The installation instructions can be found on acura.bernardiparts.com. It is crazy how much has to be taken apart to do this. It took about 4 hrs for dealer to do my install. It was their first. I paid $425.00 including installation up here in Canada. Don't think they made much on mine.

I installed the illuminated sill plates myself. Got a decent price off ebay for the parts (~30% less than msrp). Install took me about 5 hours, but I didn't have a set of instructions (didn't see the link on the box since it was covered with shipping paperwork . . .). My install is a little goofy, but the point is you don't need to take the whole console apart to get the wire to the other side, you can run it between the firewall and the center stack.
Also, make sure you are flexible before attempting to install, you will spend a long time with your head int he footwells . . .

Well, I would have been done much quicker, but I couldn't find the plug for the harness, then had a rough time figuring out how to attach it to the fuse box while still allowing the trim pieces to fit back on. When i finally did read the instructions, it's documented extremely well in there!
Now that I've done it, I think I could do it again in 2 hrs.
They do look really nice when you're done though!

Acura's install instructions are so good/complete, I don't think you need a tutorial (all 96 steps of it). You can find them here:
http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/AI/BII13542.pdf
On the other hand, the parts I didn't remove when I installed that the instructions tell you to are the following (which is a result of running the wire along the firewall rather than right through the middle of the center console):
- driver's dash lower covering
- heater controls
- glove box and trim pieces
- passenger's dash right side cover

I am really considering buying these... I am pretty handy.. I am gonna see if the parts department at my dealer will match the online price then I can install myself. Considering where everything is going to happen how do you guys figure I could do a step by step? Just pictures? No video? It'd be impossible for me to find a candidate to stand around for 5 hours watching me with a camera ahaha..

Are you going to install the proper way? Removing the radio and wiring through center stack? Or are you going to run it along the firewall like JvB mentions above? Good luck. Terry can attest to how great they look!

It would be step by step - by the book.
You mean the a/c - heater control unit?
I could probably do a step by step with photos but seeing how the instruction manual already does that it would seem like a waste. If people show interest in it I suppose though

Oops...your right. I was considering doing this a few months back, but I really didn't want to scratch up the a/c heater control unit. Let us know how it goes!

I had a 2012 MDX as a loaner the other day and thought that the door sills (especially front) should fit the ILX.
Instead of dishing out big money for the illuminated ILX sills and all the wiring that is needed, I've been wanting to get generic Acura sills for this car since it looks naked without them.
What are your thoughts? Other Acura models where the sills would fit on the ILX? Thanks.

I did follow the instructions for installing these door trims just today and yes it is very tedious work to do. Took me 5 hours, took out all the trims even the A/C console. I skipped the cutting the front door opening seal for the wiring since there are was a little "dip" on the body where I thought the wiring can go through. My only problem was the wiring needed to travel the little to the "dip" and it some what showed the wires when I returned the seals. I taped the wires instead to hold it in place and solved that. Not sure though if this cause a water leak. Another hard part that I found was aligning the trim itself since the edges are rounded, it doesn't necessarily just sits on the door edge itself.
Here's what it looks like after installing the kick plates:
I'll post more pictures later of the wiring I did.

Welcome to the forum! Thanks for the insight, that looks really nice.. It's on my long list of to-dos

Can someone please post a picture of where the door sill wiring harness plugs into the "vehicle 20-pin connector"? I have my 2014 ILX apart and when I went to plug in the harness, it doesn't fit into the connector that is shown in the installation instructions. I think they sent me the wrong harness (and after speaking with Acura, they agree).
Also, just out of curiosity, does anyone know if there is a difference between the -210 and -210A versions of the sill kit? According to the person I spoke to, he didn't know for sure but thought it was a different manufacturer but there was no difference in form, fit, or function.

But I don't want anything from older Acura's since the art design is old.
I looked at my RDX and I think they are too wide.
Actually I would simply settle for blank aluminum finished ones but couldn't find any on eBay.

I have some decent pictures that I'll upload later tonight. If you want some dimensions I can get those too, but my car is currently in the shop so that would be a couple of days.

Wondering if I should bite my tongue here until I make my purchase. But the owner is a great guy so Ill throw him some customers.
For any and all door sill needs I would look no further than YoSpeed. I have already contacted him about making me a custom battery tiedown. He already delivered on it and I love it. I always forget about it until I pop my hood. The crown icon is perfect. #usdmjon
Great wrinkle black finish with custom engraved work for some extra money.

Our sill measurements should be exact to the civic 9th gen sedan. Maybe the first person to get some ILX sills could get a discount. Hit him up and try.

Here are the pics of the doors sills. Installed them a few months ago. Followed instructions, took about 4-5 hours; nothing too complicated. Cost me $225 w/shipping

The ilx lighted door sills have no pins. The only defining feature on the underside of all 4 sills is an approx 1/8" deep lip/offset which fits the contours of the door frame. Otherwise they're just flat with prestuck tape.
