Auto-dimming rearview mirror

Hi,

Recently traded in a RDX for a ILX premium. (financial reasons!)

Noticed that the green lights on the mirror are not on.
And that the headlights in the mirror are not noticeably dimmed.

Anyone know if there is a switch to turn them on?

Thanks

Sam

LOL

Here in the entry level world, we use buttons to choose selections or initiate electronic events like engaging lights and sound. Not sure if the RDX uses some sort of advanced technology here. Maybe telekinesis?

A button is pretty revolutionary. It allows the user to firmly set your desired appendage on the button surface commonly made of plastic or sometimes metal. All one has to do is exert minimal force to activate any one of hundreds of varying chain of events.
Here... this picture will show you the exact location of said button as well as a helpful symbol that is associate with the activation of the specific chain of events you desire.

Hope that helps!!

^i remember reading a thread where some ILX users were confused on why their ILX didnt have that button, Jon.

I'm assuming, his ILX didnt come with that button or else he wouldnt be asking.
Butt, I could be wrong.

If it doesnt have that button it doesnt have an auto dimming mirror.

Unless of course Acura changed the mirror after the first year release.

You know what is funny... you assumed it was a guy and I assumed the opposite.
P.S. Nice avatar. hahaha Oh this place.

all interesting replies, guys. the first one, I need to wipe the sarcasm off it to read it! I can do funny...no issues!

And the rest, assumed correctly...no obvious button!

But it does have the two spots for the green light

Since it is a Acura premium, it should have it. Following up with the dealership tonight....keep tuned..

ps. I'm a guy, last time I checked!

pps. RDX didn't have a button either...they were always on!

Really??? Huh.

So Acura DID change the premium/tech mirrors after only ONE year. I find that very odd.
Interested to see what the dealer says. Im sure you have to turn it on via the console then if there is no button.

Honestly that is so weird they changed it so quickly. They had no recalls or issues Ive seen or heard about.

Well I stand corrected. Sorry mang!

EDIT:

Found this.

Seems it is auto dimming. Stroll through your console options and see if its in there.

Mine does not have a button or a green light but the auto dim feature has been on since I drove it home so not sure about turning it on thru the console.

FUCKING WEIRD!!!

Are you telling me the Acura ILX has three different mirrors.
1. Power Button + Two lights + Auto Dimming Functioning (my 2.0tech)
2. No Button + Two Lights + Auto Dimming Not functioning (starseed's 2.?prem)
3. No Button + No Lights + Auto Dimming Functioning (xdtownx 2.4prem)

Weird.

So looks like it's needs a longer look, so I have to bring it in. We checked another ILX premium and one of the green lights turned on automatically, whereas mine, they both don't turn on.
Could be a loose connection, or something.

ps. mine's a 2.4, and no button.

are there actually 2 lights that illuminate or just the left (green one) that illuminates? I've never seen the right side on...

One illuminates to indicate status, the other isn't a light. I believe its the sensor for the dimming system.

Acura seems to have eliminated the on-off button the dimming mirror. didn't have the on off button on my 2014 ILX 2.4 and my 2014 TL SH AWD does not have the on-off buttons either. My 2012 RDX and 2011 MDX and 2012 TSX Wagon have the on-off buttons. I traded the 2014 ILX in on the 2014 TL. I loved the car, but hated the road noise.

Interesting. Wonder why they got rid of the button.
I have used it once when the sun was pretty intense behind me and my auto dimming started turning everything blue. Only turned it off cause I wanted to make sure that's what it was. Turned it back on and haven't touched it since.

But I still like having it in case I wanted it.

I guess I cant really think of a reason to turn it off. I mean, unless that situation arises again where it needlessly starts turning blue.

But Id still rather have it than not.

Can you take a picture of the mirror showing the indicator shows a green light?

Yeah, no buttons on auto-dimming mirrors. I don't have one, works just fine.

peti1212, what year and trim is your car? I just picked up a 14' 2.4 w/premium and is has the non-defeatable auto dimming mirror. I am looking to replace it immediately with a regular mirror; possibly from another trim.

This is the auto dimming mirror on my '16 ILX. There are no buttons and no way to turn off the dimming function. Those two squares appear to be light sensors.

I put two little pieces of black electrical tape over the sensors. Small squares. Can't see them at all. Cured my mirror issue.

Why do you need to disable the dimming function? I've found it works great.

It's just not my thing. In twenty years of driving I have probably used the old flip down mirror switch like four times. To me it "hides" the shape of whatever is producing the lights and that bothers me more than the other vehicle lights, etc. I want to know what I am up against on the road, know the hazards and other players are involved in the road game. It's hard to explain.

Depending on where in NY, I can totally understand. You want to see the look on their faces because you can't see the headlights, as the only thing in your mirror is their windshield.
