ATLP Exhaust Interest Thread

Hi all,

I spoke with Heel Toe, who works to manufacture and distribute ATLP branded exhausts. As some of you may know, ATLP is hugely popular among the TL and CL enthusiasts. I've linked to some videos of their exhausts below.

Anyway, the point of this thread is to assess interest in a cat-back created specifically for our cars. ATLP needs to decide between the following:

1) Would you prefer an exhaust that includes a template to cut-out the bumper and feature a tip or would you prefer an exhaust with a tip similar to the OEM style (one that points downward)

2) What piping diameter would you prefer 2.5" or 3"? I'm biased to 2.5 because I feel like it'd be quieter and less menacing of a tone, but the 3" has been shown to provide gains.

Please provide an answer to the two questions above in your response.

I don't plan on spending the money on modifying my exhaust. I am meh about the looks on the exhaust (Don't love it, don't hate it), and for me it is not a priority. With that being said, they do look purddy.

1) OEM style - don't wanna cut bumper

2) 2.5 inch - this would be quieter and less obnoxious sounding

I will actually reform my typical 3" wants because the 3" downpipes are giving users a metal rasp..

2.5"
w/ Template... please & thank you

I'd also like to note for everyone that modding communities actually help the manufacturer.
Where would the Mustang be without all the "boy racers"

Haha, it's because if someone is willing to create an exhaust that works like the factory one, I'd rather have that, as opposed to spending money to get the bumper cut, etc.

besides, this doesn't look bad.

SELLOUT

Just kidding but if a company took the time to make a template and instructions it's really easy to do........... I would 10000 times rather have a template than a dumped exhaust.. sorry but I stand by the fact it looks stupid.

Prius Exhaust <<<<

I wont buy a dumped exhaust.. it's just gonna drone 100 times worse than it does now, looks gross and polished metal is gonna draw attention to it more than the factory metal.. Just bad news in my opinion.

If you can confirm that a tip doesn't interfere with the rear underbody spoilers than I'll do it. But I have a feeling you'll have to trim it.

Nope.. I already looked at it while I was at the dealer.. The rear lip is on the outer curve of the bumper and has a lot of clearance from the inner exhaust shield.. which you can see if you look under your bumper. Just sayin' playa.

The lip actually follows the curve perfectly to point I think it would make the exhaust pop so much more.

look at where the rear under spoiler goes in comparison to the curve on the lower panel of the bumper, then look directly at the back of your car and look where the exhaust tip is.

I wanted to comment here...

Each of our systems is specifically designed for the different applications.

4G TLs use quad 4" tips.
3G TL Type-S uses quad 3.5" tips, while a non-S uses the Squared tip shown above.
2G TLs and CLs use singe 3.5" tips.

This kit would be designed to look good on the ILX. So none of the above would really work well.

Would there be any way to make a dual out exhaust?

Or just make the hangers lower so the exhaust could hang out with out the dolphin tip?

Anyways in for no cutting and I'm good with 2.5

I would so let my car mule for all these companies... Too bad my car is in TX and they're all in CA.. Lol. Crossing fingers for a cut-out template... Dual exhaust would be some creativity that if you're not willing to cut your bumper don't flirt with the thought.. You'd have to drill holes in your car for the hangers at minimum.

It's been done on the older Jettas and Golfs, and the older "New" Beetle. It ends up stupid looking and hangs too low. You really need cutouts to make it work.

I can't imagine the need for a 3" system to be honest. Yes it might make more power but it will also make you hate driving your car 90% of the time.

Why 3"? CAUSE RACECAR THAT'S WHY, DUH!

I am excited to see if this does happen.. however you'd have to count me out of the 12 if it's factory-styled. I guess the problem is there 12 people with 2.4 ILXs that would swap anyways? Or is it interchangeable with the 2.0L as well?

I don't see why we can't do both. Offer a template and tip option for those who want it and a stock option for those who dont

That's a good idea I'd pay extra for the tip/template.

Speed, do you know if the cat-back section is interchangeable between the 2L and 2.4? I bet it's just a different diameter pipe and muffler.. I haven't gotten a change to look yet though.

I know the axle-back is interchangeable (just checked the 9th forums), not sure about the b-pipe.

Yeah we have an extra converter and it's straight pipe right there.. the 2.0 has a little bend in the exhaust where our cat is.. looks like it's avoiding something.. probably a brace for the automatic transmission.

That means though that it should be easy for them to make the end piece seperate so if they sell it to a 2.4 customer it could be straight pipe and the 2L could have a bend.. perhaps?

Hi guys, for all you 2.4'ers...and perhaps 2.0'ers (down the road). ATLP did express interest in creating an exhaust for our cars. I'm reviving this thread since it's been a hot topic lately.

Yep.. I have yet to order a catback.. if this doesn't go through then I am going Full-Race. I'd love to see it come with a template.. even the option would be worth while....

1) OEM Style

2) 3" K Series have always made more power with 3" systems. B Series was 2.5"

***Note*** If they decide to do the 2.5 inch it should just be an axle back since whats the point of buying a midpipe thats so much like the one its replacing? Plus it would be cheaper

They should have muffler choices already available so if they make an ILX system they should make a choice between a version with a tip+cutout and a version with a turn down for cheaper.

If the R20 is anything like the R18 civic (which for a lot of pieces it is) it should be 2.25" so 2.5 would be a nice upgrade for you guys.

The 2.4L should be 2.5 except in the rear section

1) it's cheaper
2) they supposedly did a survey statistic saying people viewed the exposed exhaust and thought it means it uses more gas.. (wtf right)
3) it's cheaper

Hopefully Acura will redesign the rear end of our car in the 2nd half of the 1st gen with a dual exhaust that is interchangeable with the existing model.

I think we're set on a 2.5" exhaust for the 2.4. In terms of the Acura brand, I'm sure they'll visit the bumper/exhaust issue.

Im starting to really like the hidden exhaust. I wont lie I think the exhausts ive seen so far look a bit rice. They just dont match the car in my opinion. Ive been looking at one off exhausts and im learning I may just leave it.

Do a side exit exhaust that just looks mean as fuck. Yeeeah
