How old is the data for the article? The 2019 model has barely been out and very little volume was available until this year.

I imagine owner satisfaction is very different for 2013-2015 owners versus 2016-2019 owners. Seeing how a Civic can cost more than an ILX now, I would imagine their argument is really not as strong any more.

Or whoever wrote that article is clueless...

"Adding projector headlights and slapping the Acura badge on the car shouldn't deceive anyone" --> '16+ models still have projectors?? not to mention the latest civics come with em stock

"Charging $30,000 for the ILX amounts to total chutzpah on Honda's part" --> http://www.acura.com/ilx "Starting at $25,900"

You know the badge is a pinched H, right? I knew it was the "Top Shelf Civic" before I bought it, although it has a different drivetrain. It's an every man car with a dash of luxury.
I really don't care what others think about what I drive, think, or do. Before it I had a "lower shelf" Toyota (xb).

Consumer Reports has frequently blasted Acura - I don't know the backstory or politics behind it, but this article is not a surprise.

As for my ILX ownership not being "satisfying," I beg 100% to differ. My 6-speed 2013 ILX has been absolutely bulletproof and fun to own. 213,000 miles, original engine, transmission, clutch, and an extremely low cost of ownership. Great MPG + fun-to-drive factor - after all, it's an Si at the core, right?

Plus, the exclusivity. I *like* not seeing these on every street corner. I like to think of it as a well kept secret. So there. CR can take that article and shove it.

The Lexus IS is on there to so take it with a grain of salt. Granted, the IS isn't as exciting as some other sport-luxury cars but I most certainly wouldn't put it on the list of "10 least satisfying cars".

To be fair, the IS250 is quite unsatisfying to drive. The IS350 is quite good, but both suffer from one of the worst infotainment systems known to man.

Yup, even the 2019 ILX (which is just the 2nd MMC of its generation) still have the old infotainment stack but at least it's upgraded somewhat with newer software, like how the MMC TLX got an upgrade. But Acura's modern infotainment (2019 RDX) will eventually make it to other cars, probably when it has a FMC. My brother just got a 2019 RDX Advance and I rather like the infotainment. I still prefer non touch screen because I can't stand fingerprints. Even in my ILX I don't touch the bottom touch screen. I use the steering wheel controls or I use the top screen, which can actually do everything the bottom screen can do. I'm the same way with computer monitors. Can't stand fingerprints and smudges all over.

Yeah. The Lexus/Toyota system is that much worse, which is saying a lot. Not only is it laggy, but the UI is ridiculously bad; trying to switch from your radio to your map on CarPlay requires a bunch of button presses and a couple swipes.

I guess I find fault in grouping the IS in one category. I'm not a fan of the 350's tech vs. even my '12 TL, which is 7 years old now. But grouping the "IS" as a disappointing car is kind of dumb. It's like saying the BMW 3-series is disappointing. Yeah, the 318 is probably disappointing but a 335i or 340? It's a whole different car. The "IS" includes everything from a 250 to a 350 F-sport the latter of which I don't find to be disappointing.

Pretty sad that Americans are disappointed because their mode of transportation isn't their living room.

We're Americans. Instant gratification, perfection and inexpensive. One reason why it takes the average pharmaceutical or medical device around 10 years to go from development to release. If it's not absolutely perfect it's crucified. It could help ten million people but if one gets sick or dies then the lawsuits pour in.

(and the more millennials influence the country, the more pronounced that will be...…)

I'd like to know where? Even though they reduced the ILX price for 2019, I haven't seen it lower than a Civic.

Having recently test driven both the ILX and the Civic (2019's) I have to say the Civic system is much better. Surprised the heck out of me!

It's possible a base ILX could be cheaper than a top of the line Civic. ILX can be had with pretty huge discounts, if you are not a stupid negotiator.

Doesn't exactly speak well for the ILX.

We all know the ILX doesn't sell well. That's how you get good deals... on cars that don't sell well. Doesn't mean the car itself is bad. I still think the ILX powertrain is better than the Civic. Some people think the styling is better too. But I definitely think the infotainment tech is better (and newer) in the Civic. All the cars I've purchased over the years (in my sig) were slow sellers. It meant I got great deals.

Well I suppose Honda's brass is about to jump off the top floor of their corporate HQ in shame and disgust at what they have done...Baaad ... Baaad Honda ... Baad baaad Civic... go stand in the corner ILX . Over the years the Civic has made quite a haul Honda here in Canada and has earned a staunch reputation... classifying the ILX being a gussied up civic is no big deal....we know what we have ... and we like it so.....

Yep, a top shelf Civic, with 9 hp less and 39 lbs. more than a 1956 Corvette automatic.
Ponder that for a moment.
