2019 Acura ILX’s New Face Revealed in Patent Filings?

It seems the brand’s littlest sedan is next in line for the corporate grille.

The Acura ILX will almost certainly enter 2019 wearing a new face. Images filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office reveal the Japanese brand’s entry-level luxury sedan is likely to receive a substantial facelift that brings its front-end design in line with Acura’s other sedan and crossover/SUV offerings.

The updated ILX looks to trade the beak nose of today’s car for a more aggressive mug that incorporates Acura’s new 5-point grille design. Despite its reworked front end, the new ILX appears unchanged aft of the A-pillars, which means it won’t yet migrate to the recently redesigned Honda Civic’s platform. A next-generation model would presumably do so—if a next-generation model is actually in the cards, that is.

Likewise, we anticipate the ILX to maintain its 201-hp 2.4-liter inline-4and 8-speed automatic transmission. The affable powertrain proved powerful enough to push an ILX A-Spec we previously tested to 60 mph in a reasonable 6.6 seconds. While these patent images share nothing of the car’s interior, we’d wager the updated ILX will also feature refreshed innards, possibly with the touchpad-based infotainment system that debuted in the 2019 RDX crossover SUV.

Although the revised ILX looks to offer a more attractive appearance compared to the current car, we’re hesitant to believe the model’s updates will solve its inherent problems, notably its rather dull personality and tight rear-passenger space. Still, it’s nice to see Acura appears committed to offering an entry-level model with a sub-$30,000 base price.

Agreed, it looks really good! Although, I gotta say IMO they missed an opportunity to make this a real heavy hitter by not implementing the new interior design/tech.

That said, overall I think this refresh will do really well. The new exterior design seems to fit the smaller form-factor really well, and definitely makes it up much more "grown-up" while still maintaining a young aggressive sportiness and visual excitement to it.

Nice job Acura, another great step in the right direction

It doesn't have a new interior because it's not a full redesign. It's just another MMC. It's basically front and rear fascia updates and updated infotainment stack similar to the TLX.

Acura is selling ~ 1K units per month. With these changes and very competitive market, if they can increase 200 units per month. It will be a success story for them.
Acura did not change the RLX for the same reason. Now RLX sales are up.
MDX is doing well, so Acura made some changes for 2019 and will push it until end of 2019 and for spring/summer 2020, we will get the brand new MDX.

I think the only car that will follow the RDX is TLX. I have a feeling in 2019 we will get a redesigned from ground TLX with two engines: 2.0t and a 3.0t

I honestly believe Acura will introduce CDX in North America by next year.

As far as I've seen in official Acura press, type S and new engine styles are coming in 2020, not 2019. Unless they just meant 2020 model year, which usually comes out late in the prior year

I think they probably have the k20 2.0T or even a k24 2.4T as a base model, and then v6 could be a J series turbo, but probably a whole new redesign for better MPG.

if this is the final look for the ILX, then its by far the best looking one so far IMO. They may not even come out with a lip kit for this one. Looking forward to upgrading front and rear bumper clips/ headlights etc in a few years. By few years, meaning a good long while because thats going to be expensive. This is not going to be a cheap straight swap like the 90's or even early 2000's Hondas.
