2013 ILX 6-speed MT, chrome wearing off of shifter

So the chrome is wearing off of my shifter. I don't wear any rings or anything that would abrade or otherwise damage the finish. I went to the dealer and despite this being an obvious defect they weaseled out of paying for it on warranty. This will be the first and last car I buy from that dealer.

Is there a way to "rechrome" it? I shopped around and a new part is like $220 which is too much. Or does anyone know of a suitable substitute?

I wouldn't expect the coating on a shift knob to be replaced under warranty at any dealer anyways. Perfect time to replace it with a weighted shift knob.

I'm down with this plan. Do you have any suggestions for a shifter or experience with a good one?

I would go with a new aftermarket one as well personally, however if you want to stay stock there has to be one in a pick and pull/yard for either the ILX or an SI.

And I bet the guys at the dealer are telling each other about the guy that tried to weasel his way into getting normal wear and tear replaced for free under warranty.

OP, if you ever have visited a tourist attraction; you'll notice hand railings and rocks that were placed near the trail, smooth.
Rocks are SUPPOSED to be rough! how the fuck did it get smooth!?

from the natural oils found in the palm of your hand. and over time, with thousands and thousands of people running their hand on the rock made the rock smooth.

it's the same thing going on with the shifter...
it doesnt matter if you never rings. the natural oils found in your hand and the nature of the shifter..ie; you place your hand there thousands and thousands of times eventually rubbed the finish away.
(LOL did that really need explaining?)
