Arrow 2013 ILX 6-Speed 200,000 Milestone - Video & Pics

I thought some of you would find this interesting. I hit 200,000 on my ILX on June 12th, which was the exact 5 year anniversary of the day I got the car new in 2012. I will post screen shots from my maintenance Excel spreadsheet here. The car has cost about $7,000 in maintenance excluding fuel, registration, and insurance. I've had 27 oil changes and I'm on my 4th set of Michelin tires.

Here is an 8 minute video that my brother and I put together showing how I got the car and some of the places it's taken me over the years.

Very nice! The car looks pristine and is obviously well taken care of. That's a lot of driving in that 5 year period. My oldest car, 2006 RL, has almost 60k miles on it.

That RL sounds like a real cream puff! Must be in great condition. Yeah I do drive quite a bit. Luckily the ILX has been super cheap to maintain. I think the cost per mile comes out to about 4 cents over the course of 200,000 miles.

Great video, thank you for sharing.

Why are you giving the car away? It seems like it's been reliable.

My brother can use it for a daily driver. I have 6 other Acuras and I want the ILX to get used, I'm just ready for a change after having it as my primary since 2012.

I picked this TL 6-speed up in April and I'm enjoying it. I like V6 power.

Yup, it sure is. It's garaged and basically looks brand new. I'll try to take some pics and post them here. it's the tech model so it's been de-PAXED. It's also got the CMBS and adaptive cruise which works quite well and was really advanced for 2006.

Some pics of my RL. All the service is done at a local Acura dealer and I keep a folder with all the service records.

Haha, thanks! I didn't know Andrew was going to post that, but knowing that he's an Acura driver himself (2005 TL), I sent him a quick link to the blog and the video and he dug it. The video has shot up over 2,000 views in one day and traffic to my website has peaked to an all time high for this year. Guess there are some Acura fans out there. The comments on the article are sort of funny. My favorite: "And the crowd goes mild."

Wow. That thing is immaculate! I would have guessed so, with only 60k miles, but your photos prove it. Definitely can tell you've taken great care of it. Side note, San Jose is a great place to get cars from. My Legend coupe (the one now at 554k miles) and my 1992 NSX (now at 107k miles) have both come from that area and were incredibly well preserved. Then I brought them to the desert and watched the paint fade and leather interiors dry up, haha.

Thanks! The car does often sit in the garage for weeks before it gets driven. It's definitely an underrated car that was ahead of its time. People bash Acura on this, but I actually like my cars to look anonymous and not too trendy. Because I keep my cars for 15-20 years, any trendy look will appear dated and gaudy soon. The understated look will always look nice.

Do you turn your car on/off a lot? Five years is pretty early for starter failure. I don't think I've seen a starter failure in my family of Hondas and Acuras will less than ten years on it, averaging 4 starts a day including weekends. Makes me kind of want to pick up an OEM starter from 2016 ILX that they're parting out after a total lost. They only run $85 with many less than 10k miles on them.

Lol, I think in this case the miles are a bigger wear factor than the years. Probably not a huge need to start stockpiling starters - the part is very readily available and will continue to be for some time. Cool thing was that even when the starter was broken, I still was able to start and stop the car for another 1,000 or so miles by parking it on hills and getting a rolling / clutch start. You can't do that with an automatic transmission.
