Question '16 ILX Fog Lights

Hi everyone,

First post here. I just bought (literally last week) a '16 ILX 2.4 Premium and was looking to pick up some fogs for it. I really, really don't want to spend the $550-600 that I've seen listed for the OEM LED lights from Acura. Are there any aftermarkets that would look as good for a better price and easy install?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Look into the Morimoto XB fog lights. A lot of other Acura models have used them in the past and were happy with the purchase. I believe as of now, they retail for around $180, but may be able to catch a sale on certain websites. From what I have learned, they make very good fog light applications.

Yeah go with the Morimotos. They are bulletproof reliable and look great. A perfect color match to the ILXs jewel eyes

I've tried using the OEM halogen fogs with various PnP style LEDs (Genuine Philips H11's, high powered MZ clones, etc)

But after it all I prefer the cleaner look and sharper beam the Motos provide. Just make sure to be careful with the leveling screw on them and adjust accordingly.

Guys. Im pretty sure Vega is looking to purchase the entire fog light kit. They purchased the 2016 premium which does not come with fog lights standard. That's why they mentioned it costing $500+.

He'll just need the attachment kit for the wiring and switch. And then pick up the Morimotos.

It'll be more like 350-400 tops

Here are several options.

1. 2016 OEM LED kit $473

2. 2015/16 harness+2016 OEM or Aftermarket LED light.

3. 2015 OEM halogen fog light kit $200 from ebay... etc.

4. Aftermarket LED bulbs in #3 kit $250.

See link below.

https://acurazine.com/forums/photogr...-light-930621/

I would choose #1 since it will be with the life of the ILX. #4 is a bargain.

Correction

In order for the 2015 fog like kit to work you will also need to buy the 2016 Grill (#3/8) and Garnish (#5/10) to covert the Base bumper to an A Spec bumper so you can mount the fog lights.

So add the Grill and Bezel to my #2, 3, & 4 above.

This all just seems like a lot of trouble to get foglights. When I turn the foglights on, I can barely tell the difference. I just see a little yellow-ish light to the sides. I never turn my foglights on as in normal weather it's purely cosmetic.

schen72, you're correct about the fogs being purely cosmetic. The problem with fog lights in the U.S. is that they are only able to be used with low beam headlights. In actual fog this doesn't help vision because the light from the headlights still reflects from the fog. Foglights mounted below the bumper would not reflect as much as long as they are properly aimed. They need to be switched independently from the low beams. I own another car, an Alfa Romeo 164 (google it) which has fogs on a separate switch. I use them with only the parking lights when in fog. That said, I did get the LED fogs for my '16 Tech because I didn't like the look of the plain grills.

Yeah, I'm in South Florida and don't really have a true need for them. They'd be mostly cosmetic. I really didn't want to have to go thru the hassle of a new bumper etc. I hoping that it was as easy as replacing the light covers. After reading up on it as Schen said, it seems like a lot of work for something just cosmetic. Even though I love the way they look. It's almost like something's missing from the front bumper w/o them. oh well :/

Thanks everyone!

I have fog lights on my ILX A-SPEC and I never turn them on. They seem useless. Same goes for the foglights on my RDX and RL. On those cars, the HIDs just overpower them.

Fog lights are not for every day use.
Are you serious people?

FOG lights. They are to be used in the fog. They sit lower and generally ppint slightly down to light up the road directly infront of you. Typically they should be in the yellow area of light output as that glares less and cuts through fog easier.

Fog lights are a just im case there is nasty fog.
Yall sound like youd get upset you dont use a fire extinguisher once a month. Its a just in case luxury. Nothing more.

But to say they have no purpose or they are simply cosmetic is wrong.

I wasn't suggestion that they have NO purpose at all. I was simply saying that where I live, they aren't really necessary. We don't get much fog in South Florida. And as far as not using a fire extinguisher, I don't know that I've actually ever used one. So not using one once a month wouldn't matter that much.

My MDX has them and so does my wife's TLX. My little blue car is now going to be the outcast in the garage.

Where I live, there is rarely any fog. But I see lots of cars with fog lights turned on all the time. I also see many European cars with their rear fog lights turned on in perfectly clear weather. I agree that in actual thick fog, foglights will probably be useful. So for the majority of people where I live, it is primarily a cosmetic thing.

Front fogs are to help you see.
No issue leaving the fogs on or on auto so they are on when you need them.

Rear fogs are another story and subject to state law because its a bright red light on the rear of your car.

Fogs have a purpose. Claiming they are cosmetic is your personal opinion and just how you see them.

fog lamp
noun
plural noun: fog lights
-a bright light on a motor vehicle, used in foggy conditions to improve road visibility or warn other drivers of one's presence.

Fog lights have a purpose. Claiming they don't is ignorant. YOU may not use them as intended but that does not mean the rest of us are that dense.

I also have a 2016 Premium and I am really interested in doing this. Does this OEM attachment kit also include the housings or just the wiring components? I am looking into the morimotos since they have great reviews and are way cheaper than the OEM fog lights. Also, will this be labor intensive or kinda just plug and play? My pops is an electrician so he can definitely lend me hand. T.I.A.

I think they can be semi useful if that's what you want to do. I like the idea of not going oem. However my own personal belief is that they are not worth my money since the LED headlights are very bright and the ILX is pretty low. I had some on my Accord Coupe and TSX and never used them

On my ILX, I can barely tell the fogs are on. I think the LED headlights are quite good.
