Question Pillar cover replacements/overlays - 99 TL???

Has anyone had any experience with purchasing and installing replacement/overlay black pillar covers on their 2nd Gen TL? Do they look good installed? Do they last? Here is a link to ones listed on ebay. After 19 years the sun has done a number on my originals.

I would question how log those last. When mine started to go, I wrapped them with some 3M 1080 gloss black vinyl wrap for a factory look. It takes some work, but worth it IMO.

Am interested in in the amount of work involved on this. Saw another member way back had taken them off and repainted them, wrapping them seems to be a (slightly) easier route.

I tried painting mine but was not happy with result. Sanding the plastic to remove all the old oxidized finish is tricky. The base must be flawless before painting otherwise you will see the imperfections in the top coat.

Vinyl wrap is pretty easy and the result is a nice look. It's also more forgiving of the imperfections of the substrate you apply it to. Aside from removing the pillar covers, it's a fairly easy process. Plenty of vids out there.

Thx Iggy - I think you convinced me to look seriously at the wrap option.

IMO: per Iggy's suggestion, " I would question how log those last. When mine started to go, I wrapped them with some 3M 1080 gloss black vinyl wrap for a factory look. It takes some work, but worth it IMO. I bought the ones listed in your original post # 1. They look good, but the edges are not tapered, so they snag the cloths when washing or waxing the car, and really just don't look RIGHT! I installed them like two years ago, and they still look good, but they are stick on, and don't look that great up close. I have already removed the ones on the passenger side, and,. as Iggy suggested, wrapped them with " 3M 1080 gloss black vinyl wrap ". The vinyl wrap is a much better look.
