Hey there welcome. The 01 tranny is a 5 speed and the 99 is a 4 speed, the ecu is different and wiring harness. From 2000 and on its been a 5 speed, might as well rebuild it with the updated filter and your good to go.

Ya may want to download the factory service manual and compare the electrical wiring schematics for the tranny. There's gotta be a way, good luck man !

Maybe if ya got everything else that may differ from the '99 original 4 speed AT to the newer model's 5 speed for the ECU/PCM and wiring harness ???? Keep searching !

Well as 3.2TLc mentioned the service manual is your best friend, Now I looked and there's a 2nd pressure switch which the 01 doesn't have and the shift solenoids with different connectors on the top of the tranny closest to the engine. Might end up with a code for the pressure switch. good luck

Even if you do get it running it will be in limp mode which locks you out of vtec because the ecu will be searching for 4 gears and you will have an extra.

Hey Wookie30,

I own a 99 TL that I just completed a full engine and transmission swap on, so I have an almost brand new transmission that I can sell you. I purchased the transmission from Jasper Transmissions and had it installed by a certified Acura Service center and only drove it for about 20,000 miles before I decided to do a full swap for an engine from a 2003 CL-S with a six speed manual transmission.

I bought the trans from Jasper because my mechanic told me that Jasper re-manufactured transmissions are known for being better than brand new OEM because their engineers take manufacturer recommended improvements and then add some of their own engineering improvements in an attempt to "breed out" the original manufacturer defects.

I will private message you with my contact information if you are interested in talking about possibly buying the transmission. Shoot, the engine runs perfectly. I'll make you a screaming deal for both if you are interested.

I am the original owner of this car, the engine has 192,000 miles on it and it comes with an AEM cold air intake, DC headers, a brand new tune that includes a valve adjustment, new timing belt & water pump, new oil pan, spark plugs, and a Comptech under drive racing crank pulley. This would be a perfect drop in for you that runs great.

Check your messages.

Hello, I have a 1999 3.2 TL that has a bad tranny. Can I switch it out with a tranny out of a 2000 3.2 TL?
Thanks

^ No.
As previously mentioned the 99 is a 4 speed transmission while the 00-03 is a 5 speed! The ECU will not work with that transmission.

Seconded.

Plus even if it did work, you wouldn't want it because the 2000 - 2003 5 speed A/T is a god damned nightmare and is way WAY worse than the 4 speed.

Talk about a transmission that is great at shitting the bed...

The biggest thing is the ECU and the engine wire harness. You will have to bring your car to the dealer to have your key reprogrammed to the new ECU/immobilizer so that you will be able to start the motor

That post by EastBayTL was made on 05-11-2013, and he hasn't logged in since 01-08-2016 and it's most likely gone by now.

I also don't allow selling in this forum but since I never saw this before and it's so old I'm just going to close this thread.
