The Z600 works quite well. As does the 6310i from Nokia.
Wow, thanks. How do you know so much about cell phones?

What about the T68i? Anyone had any luck with it?
I'm thinking of keeping my P800, and forwarding calls to some TL compatible phone when I'm in the car, so I want the cheapest phone that works with the car. Suggestions?

The T68i will work quite well. However it's been out now for about 2 years and getting a bit long in the tooth for a cell phone. (Cell phone life expectancy is ~ 18 months). The T616 or 610 are about the same price, I think and will perform well also.
Now if your looking for novelty the N-Gage by Nokia seems to function rather well also. I've seen the N-Gage for as "low" as $270.

I figure the 6600 should work with the car as ALL Nokia phones use HFP. Kay, can you tell me why you're getting rid of it?
The 6600 doesn't work with the TL. It will pair with the car and you can even dial numbers using the voice command, but the sound will not come from the speakers. IFor some reason, no matter what you do, the audio will only come from the phone itself. Kind of sucks having it pair and dial a number, but still having to put the phone up to your ear.

The T630 is ok. The respection isn't as good as the 6600, but it does work with the TL and it works with my nokia bluetooth headset. The only thing I miss is the intergrated speaker phone.

Do you know where to get a T630 or a Z600 (I wasn't sure the T630 was shipping yet?)

FYI: If it breaks, you'll be very fortunate if Sony Ericsson helps you out.

Well those guys at gsmphonesoucre will replace the phone if it's broken. I bought a nokia 6610 way before it came out in the states. One day it died on me. They fixed it for free for me. Talk to Adam, he even tried to help me fix my P900 that I didn't even get from them.

By the way, have you, or anyone for that matter, tried using a T630? I may get this phone and get rid of the buggy 6600 if it works well with the car.

As for the P900, I've actually read some forums and people are saying that they upgraded the firmware on the phone and it supports handsfree now, or some form of it. I'll look for the link post it when I find it.
Sorry I didn't get to this sooner. I was out of town last week.

The PU button represents the button you would push to start the pairing process, yes.
I will query my Swedish contact to see if the P900 upgrade will infact support HFP. Film at 11...

I have not seen the T630. Where is it being sold? Is it just a T616 with some other carriers stuff on it?

Hey Maxfi, how's it going. Well, I'll save you the trouble. I did some research of my own to see if the P900 upgrade will work. I found this thread.

http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopi...1008&start=165

At the time it looked promising, but after reading it fully it doesn't seem SonyEricsson is listening. I bought a T630 it have been using it with the TL. Everything work fine, but I do miss the intergrated speaker phone of the nokia's and the reception isn't very good.

I bought the phone from http://www.gsmphonesource.com I buy all my phones from them. If you happen to buy something from them don't forget to metion my name.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, I have found that the Nokia phones (just about all models) out perform the others in terms of Cellular reception. I have a Sony E and my wife has a Nokia (both GSM phones) and she gets coverage in a lot of places I don't. I just like the smaller phones and Nokia hasn't seem to figure out that size matters

Has anyone here tryed the Nokia 3660? It's an upgraded version of the 3650, which I understand works, but no display stuff on the car.
The 3660 looks nice, and it's Symbian.

Jeez Kay, what kind of spiff you gettin' from gsmphonesource?
spiff=cash~commission

Here's some other sites you folks may want to check. (no offense kay), but gsmphonesource does have good prices. They also make you buy an unlocking cable, and unlock your own phone.

These guys sell them unlocked.

I'll have to agree. The GSMPHONESOURCE had the new Siemens SX1 for $1100 USD. I got it from Expansys for about $650.

Holy markup, Batman.

Expansys however seems to be quite a bit behind in getting the latest stuff. I ordered the 3660 and the T630 from GSMPHONE and Expansys still lists them as Pre-Order

SE P900

Okay Im confused!! Does the SE P900 work on the TL or does it need to be modified? I have to talked to several retaliers and some say it works and and some say it doesn't. I searched the net briefly and could not find any specifics if it has the HFP.

Any comments would be good since I am looking to buy a new phone with new service this week a new TL next quarter

Not really a commission, more like a favor. I got a defective P900 off of ebay that I need to send to Sony Ericsson oversea to get replaced. Because the phone has not been released in the states, I have to send it to the UK. Adam, my friend at gsmphonesource, agreed to help me get it fixed/replaced even though I didn't buy the phone from him. In turn I'm trying to send some business his way.

The P800/P900 phones DO NOT use HFP. I got this information directly from SE. Therefore, they will not work with the TL.
If you read this entire thread, you can pick up some pretty good info about it, including links to other information sources.

The definitive answer:
NO. The P900 will NOT work with the TL. There are no upgrades for the P900 (according to S-E in Sweden) that will make it compatible. The P900 only supports Headset profile and NOT Hands-Free profile. What is confusing people is that most of the headsets are moving to the Hands-Free profile as well. I expect the headset profile will go away some time soon (1-2 years).

Thanks for your responses and based on them I will most likely go for the SE t616 for now and live with it though I really would rather have a clamshell phone then an open face..

My wife has a 6310i and has been using it for a few weeks now. Works great but I don't like that the signal strength and battery level don't show up. It's not a big deal but I don't like the fact that the feature is there but it's not in use.

I bought myself a T616 and it should arrive Monday or Tuesday. Can't wait to test it out.

Has anyone heard if the SonyEricsson Z600 will be offered in the USA? Acura has it listed on the Handsfree Link page, but as far as I can tell no one is selling it.

Do our friends up north in Canada have it?

Looks like a cool phone and from what I hear it is the T616 in a clamshell design.

I don't know about what (if any) carriers in the US will sell the Z600, but you can purchase it from any number of places on the WEB. If you already have GSM service then you would just take the SIM card from your current phone and put it in the Z600. It'll work just fine. If you go to the carriers booth at the mall and ask if you can do this they will likely tell you no (because they want to sell you a phone) but it WILL work just fine.

I can confirm that swapping your SIM card works well. I bought a P800 on the web and did this. Just pop the SIM in there and you're up and running. Just make sure when you buy the phone it's "unlocked".

I'm not super clear on it, but I think it's something the reseller (ie. sprint, tmobile) would do. I do know that the phones have to be unlocked or you won't be able to use them with your SIM.
If you look on the sites that sell them, they'll always say "unlocked" except for gsmphonesource.com which sells you the unlocking cable and directions.

Mook, the z600 is currently in stores here in nyc...$200 w/ tmobile contract(i believe that's w/ a rebate). Nice looking phone but a bit bulky and doesn't come with a belt clip...holding out for the moto v600!

Sprint PCS T608

It's now available for $199.99. Call PCS Telesales at 866-PCS-AUTO and press option one(1) for Bluetooth handsets. They may not realize it's availlable at first because it launched today.

Happy Holidays!

I just ordered my T608 today.

Here are some good informational links about Sprint and the Phone:

http://www.sprintpcsinfo.com/modules...rticle&sid=304

There is a $100 rebate if you purchase by 12/31 and activate by 1/14, so don't delay!

Question Sony Ericsson T62U

Does anyone here use Sony Ericsson T62U? This phone is listed as compatible with TL in the first message of this thread. It does not have built-in Bluetooth, but you can get a snap-on Bluetooth adapter (DBA-10) for it.

The problem is that, according to the manual, the phone does not appear to have a Hands-free profile, just a headset profile. I can't find any information on whether adding the DBA-10 also somehow adds the HFP; it doesn't seem to be likelly.

I really don't want to get a GSM phone. I tried GSM service and found the coverage to be horrible. I really don't understand why people want to sacrifice coverage in exchange for some "cool" features. So I'm looking at TDMA/GSM phones and there are only two choices: Nokia 6340i on Cingular and the T62U on AT&T.

I'm currently on AT&T and believe their TDMA coverage to be the best in the country. Cingular is rated poorly by pretty much everyone, so I don't want to risk it. The 30-day risk-free period is not enough to learn about coverage in even my own metro area. So if T62U works with TL, I'd probably be a happy camper. I'd appreciate any info...

I have read on here some people with the siemens s56 phone say that with caller id, it justs displays the number not the person even if person name is in phonebook, is this correct? How about with the se t616? Trying to decide the best bluetooth phone. Not sure also about gsm network coverage but it does seem Cingular has just updated their nationwide coverage map on the website to cover most of all the nation.

If you just quality of the coverage by the map printed by the provider, you're in for a NASTY surprise. Those maps are absolutelly meaningless. You can be inside a metropolitan area that is supposed to have a continuous coverage, but you can go through mile-long stretches of the road with no signal whatsoever! Or you can get that 1-2 bars marginal coverage that results in drop-outs and dropped calls.

I've been with two providers for TDMA digital coverage (Verizon and AT&T) in Washington DC metro and found Verizon coverage to have huge holes. The AT&T digital coverage around here and everywhere I've traveled in the US has been exeptionally good. But when I tried their GSM service, I found to be so bad that I was simply bewildered. How can a major company risk its reputation by introducing the service without first building up at least an adequate coverage????? I simply don't get it. And I'm not willing to try GSM service for at least another 3 years.

I use GSM via Tmobile in Nashville, TN. Nashville is not exactly the most high tech place in the US. But my coverage is fine, and I live 45 miles outside the city. I've noticed one hole and it's very small.
With Sprint in Austin, TX I had more problems with coverage, and unexpected roaming charges. I understand Sprint has improved their coverage, but all in all my experience with Tmobile and GSM have been just fine. And I get 1000 minutes for 39.99. No weekend bull****, just a 1000 minutes.
I don't want to get in a pissing match over providers here, but I don't want people to think that GSM coverage sucks across the board either. The best thing about my service is that I can buy any GSM phone I want, put my SIM card in, and I'm in business.

I just got my T608 today and activated it ... Sprint customer for 6 years... was interesting to get the phone programmed properly, since the store where I activated it had never seen one ... works like a champ, but I've yet to test if CallerID works (been driving the whole time ) ... if there are any bugaboos found, I'll pop in ... hopefully my patience has been rewarded

does anyone know if there is a known phone firmware update scheduled any time soon?
