Shark Fin antenna on 3rd Gen TL
Not sure where to post this question, and my research didn't get me a clear answer - How can we use a sharkfun antenna from a 5th gen tlx ilx ect or maybe a lexus on a 3rd gen?
I'd assume that under the base are electronics - which I don't need - but trying to get some more direction about an option that can work...

You can remove the bubble by removing the rear map lights and then you can access the screws to the bubble rather than removing the whole dang headliner.

Not sure where GP got his from but there are 1000 different styled ones on Ebay. Some have openings for electronics others are dummys with no underneath opening.

Holy smokes, I've been so caught up I forgot about this thread!
Search up "Nextek shark fin" on ebay.
They're all around $30 (on the expensive end for shark fin antennas). I believe they're all universal and the same size so some may say "for Lexus" or "for Oldsmobile" so just pick any one. Probably best to pick a silver one and see if you need to get it painted or not. I had to get mine painted because it was black.
I don't have XM because I'm in Canada but SharksBreath had the same one (I actually bought his extra one off him) and he said he removed the XM antenna and just tucked the antenna into the headliner and still had signal.
Cheers

The XM antenna isn't a cover, its a whole assembly with the antenna inside.
Here's what sharksbreath did

Shark Fin Antenna Cover Question
Hi my friend. I love your car. Can you give me the link for the cover you bought for the xm antenna? I bought and painted one and removed the stock antenna only to realize it doesn't come apart. Also, what front lip and rap bumper/lip do you have? I want the same for my car. Please just email me at Mikeandjo2016@gmail.com because I rarely get on here. Thanks!

JPerkMr954, does the sharkfin antenna provide better XM reception? Where did you get those taillights?

Thank you for this. I bought my sharkfin shell 2 years ago and finally got around to installing it. Removing the old shell is pretty easy, takes about 5 minutes. There's a few screws and a 17mm bolt. You can use the xm antenna in the new sharkfin shell. It's held on by tape but you could theoretically use the 17mm bolt. I use some 3m tape to keep the sharkfin on, some vinyl wrap over the hole on both sides (just in case of water), heated the tape with a blow dryer for better tape adherence and weighed it down with heavy textbooks for a few hours. Hit 65mph and it stayed on no problems without the bolt. I feel like it's a small mod but if you are going for attention to detail, it's worth it. Gives the TL a more modern look since most eco cars after 2012 have this from the factory.
