Question How did I beat a Subaru STI?

It is a legit question, that I am surprised about, keep in mind I hang out with the Subby peeps here in North Florida and I have respect for them. However, how did my non-Type S 2005 Acura TL Sport 6 speed, beat a 2015 Subaru STI? While running I didn't hear a missed shift or any issues from his car. I just heard it had loud exhaust, but can't confirm his mods, but even stock I shouldn't have won right? I doubt my car has the Stock Horsepower, and the only mods have done so far are as follows: Tein flex z, Skunk2 Camber kit, SPC rear camber adjustment, K&N Cold Air intake, and deleted the rear resonators off the stock exhaust, then did the "Check Valve delete" for the slave cylinder. That is it so far, no Hondata (yet), I plan on doing the clutch, flywheel, and routine maintenance. So with around 40 - 50 less horsepower, and torque, how the hell did I win by a Car? Mind you I don't have a video of the Race, so of course, the only proof I have are the two friends that were riding behind on our way to the bar. All I did was stop at a stop light, I didn't rev, make eye contact with the driver of the subby, or take off quick. We just lined up at the stop light, when it went green, we casually rolled, and then he stomped on it. So of course, I did too, but he had to shift earlier??? because by the time I went to second he already shifted...and I was fender to fender, but then he shifted again, but I still had RPM's left, so I took it all the way. Then by the time I got into 3rd, I was a half car ahead. Then 4th, I was a full car ahead. It was unexpected but fun, I don't think he liked it because after I let off, he flew by and got in front of me. I think he wanted redemption, but I walked away on a high note. Plus there was to much traffic at the next light.

Should I have won? You think something was wrong with his car or was it Driver error? #Drivermod... Like I said he didn't miss a shift, and his car sounded really good.
Or is my somewhat stock car faster then I think? Mind you I did lighten her up a bit, everything from the rear seat back has been removed. She should weight around 3,300 lbs, so similar to WRX STI model.

Do you have any stickers on your car? If so, that would give you quite the upper hand. illist, AEM, Tein and Injen stickers add the most power. The two in the pink one in the stink instantly adds 15hp.

Really though, I'm not a speed racer on the street but I had a stock Charger pull on me yet beat an S4 one time. It has a lot to do with the driver. Especially if it's a manual.

You're an idiot if you street race. Where was this in Jacksonville? I will avoid that area if I can...

Also to note...we don't have 270HP...pretty sure it is 258HP with the revised/corrected test methods.

You hit 4th gear in stop light to stop light driving? What is wrong with you? It's one thing if you are blasting light to light up to the speed limit'ish...but winding out 3rd and going to 4th means you were over 80mph.

And yes...I am a grumpy old man and I do yell at the neighbor kids to get off my lawn.

You sure he knew y'all were racing?

Subaru people are notoriously oblivious.

Like...sometimes I see a Subaru with a loud exhaust and the driver has NO idea that the car sounds that awful.

Sounds to me like he wasn’t even trying. I know I wouldnt. He shifted early = not racing.

pretty sure STis redline at about 6700 rpm. That’s not far off from the TL (~500rpm). He was shifting early. He wasn’t racing.

A lot of STi people shift early in order to go faster. The powerband is often fat in the middle. Useless up top.

A number of boards of which I am a member ban posts that include illegal street racing. It's a public health issue.

I have both cars (type-S technically) so I can definitively say; don't let it get to your head

It's a simple equation; more power and less weight (+ better traction, but lets not open that bag of worms) vs less power and more weight = a no brainer.
To give you the benefit of the doubt, lets say you did shed enough lb's to equal subbie weight, he still has more power (and better traction)

Stock STi's are mid 13 second cars, Type-S' = 14.2'ish? With a base probably 14.5?
It's been years since I drove a stock STI, but I feel my Type-S would barely be able to hang with an STi.

Chalk it up to a fluke/you're the better driver/he had something wrong, and take the W

So many angry people, thank you to the few that gave a scientific response. I don't street race, I hate it and its dangerous. But no traffic, there were no cops, and the next light was 1 mile away. So it is every blue moon situation, and he started it... Anyways sorry for my post, please close this thread if possible sorry for triggering people, I was just curious.
