DIY: Fully Lighted Blinkers

As long as you can find the plugs, this is any easy and great looking mod. There are plenty of EG Civics in wrecking yards so the plugs shoud be relatively easy to find now too.

As you can see in the pics below the EG Civic blinker plugs fit and lock into the CL's blinker housing just like the stock CL blinker plugs.

Start by removing the CL's blinker housing. The fillips head screw is located on the inner end of the blinker housing. Pull the blinker housing out, clean it up and set it aside. Your stock blinker and side running light are hanging in the pic below.

Cut the two stock CL blinker wires about 1" to 2" back from the plug. The CL blinker plug can be discarded. It wont be needed any more.

The CL's stock blinker wires: One is BLACK. One is GREEN.
The EG Civic blinker plug has three wires: One is BLACK. One is GREEN. The third is RED.
(Like the pic below) Butt connector BLACK to BLACK and GREEN to GREEN from the EG blinker plug to the CL's two blinker wires.

Now undo the electrical tape from the CL's stock running light harness next to the blinker plug. You will see that one of its wires is RED. Using T-Taps connect the RED wire from the EG Civic plug to the RED wire on the running light harness about 4" back from the running light plug. The pic below will show the T-Tap and RED wire connections.

Turn your key to the start position and test the blinkers to make sure everything is working properly. Use electrical tape to tape your harnesses back together and water tight. (ignore the RED wire tap in this pic below. You want to use T-Taps for sure!)

Pop your blinker and running light plugs back into the housing and reinstall the housing. Go to the other side anr repeat the process.

Have fun ;D

Whats the bulb size on the civic blinker? Probably same as the CL, since it fits the same?

It's actually a dual filament bulb, where as the CL's stock bulb is a single filament. I think 6496? I check when my girl gets back with the car. It looks the same as the CL's stock bulb (same shape) but a dual filament. I prefer the amber look myself but clear would be cool too. The LED's would be really cool. I'll have to try that. I have LED's in my city lights on my Lexus headlights and they look awesome!

great writeup man, I'm definitely going to be doing this later...I'm not too much a fan of the 'little tiny parking light on at night' look...though I'm hesitant that this will make my car look like a dc2 teg once I do my retrofit

question: this mod doesnt cause hyperblinking or anything, right? How's the fulltime light been on the housing? no chrome melting?

^ when i did mine, the only way i could get it to not hiperblink was to change it to dual filament bulbs in the big section, and to completely remove the small bulb. so basically they were on with the headlights, and blinked. but i also had to ground the dual filament twice for both oem ground wires to make it not hiperblink.

When you connect the red wire, is that shorting out the system? That's usually what causes hyperblinking.

yeah im thinking because it's a constant, its putting unneeded stress load on the circuit...to use it along with the parking signal next to it without hyperblinking, I believe you're going to have to run a relay....almost like fogs

I tapped a resistor to the ground and turn signal to rid my hyperblink when I put in my LED for the signal...

This mod will absolutey NOT hyperblink. That is reason for using a dual filament bulb. The EG Civic dual filament plug and bulb fit perfectly into the CL's housing and that is the other reason I used it. It literally works like it was this way from the factory. No relay, resistor, or any other electrical shit needed besides your tools, some butt-conectors and T-Taps. This will not harm your harness or electrical system what so ever.

They sell a non oem version of the EG socket on eBay. I installed it, no problems yet.
