This site is great! I have had the SRS light on for quite awhile. I've reset it a few times, but it just comes back on everytime someone sits in it. I have about 145K on it and now know that I can get it fixed under warranty. Thanks to this thread.

I really need to get my TL into a dealership! I've had an issue with this light for a while, and I've been ignoring it. I only have 5,000 miles left to go until it's not covered anymore.

If the seatbelt buckle is causing the light to go off, you have a lifetime warranty on that.

There is a recall on the drivers airbag=shrapnel

I think there is a recall for the drivers airbag. Maybe this has something to do with it.

That won't cause the light to go off.

Unhappy SRS light...Honda dealer unable to reset...needs new module?

I am unable to reset or get any codes from my SRS light in my 01 Acura CL Type S, but I have reset it before (came back on tho).
A Honda dealer says they can't establish communication with SRS module to get any codes, so they need to start by replacing the module. $150 diagnosis fee plus $818 for part/labor. This sucks.
Has anyone run into a dealer unable to pull the codes? Doesn't seem legit to me..and I haven't come across anyone in forums who've experienced this situation.

You can take that 150 and buy a code reader that reads SRS code. I have one and it works great. I believe mine is from Innova.

Some dealers will put that 150 diagnosis fee toward the cost of your repair. If that makes you feel better.

Thanks for your reply. But if the dealer can't read the code, how will I be able to?

And one guy said the 150 goes toward the repair, the service writer said it doesn't and gave me the old, "what was HIS name?" line...guess he's gonna open up a can on him

Yea, must be a communication problem. Might be the module or the OBD port itself. See if a code reader can pick up codes from the engine.

Thanks for your replies aznboi2424!

[QUOTE=MPLScltypes;14704235]Thanks for your reply. But if the dealer can't read the code, how will I be able to?

UPDATE:
Thankfully they now agreed to waive the diagnostic fee and wash the car for free.

This is the tech's writeup:
"I tried to check for codes w/ the 2 different HDS setups and came up with no communication with the SRS unit, also tried the PGM tester and an aftermarket scanner and they said no SRS communication, fuses good, checked for bulletins and could not find any, tried shorting the SCS connector and could not get codes. Per manual we need to start by replacing the SRS control unit and recheck"

So I agreed to have them swap out the unit ($818) which of course was "cross shipped" (aka sent to GA instead of MN, duh). Now we wait...

For any who are wondering, I just took my 2001 CLS with 105K on it to the dealer for this problem and the passenger seat buckle was replaced with no charge. Agreed to $87 diagnostic fee, but it was waived.

This exact scenario happened for me as well, except my stealer wanted $150 for diagnostics, although I already knew it was that buckle as I had done the SRS light reset a few times, and the light came back on as soon as the seat belt was fastened.

Yup, same with me and my passenger buckle. Now my driver's is acting up so time to go back to the dealer.

The Srs light came on and says on with my 2001 cls even if the passenger seat belt is fastened. I am told the seat belt needs to be replaced. It seems to me the seat belt switch must be broken and a simple jumper would solve the issue. Has anyone else fixed this using a jumper?

I would not recommend that anyone try messing with it when it's a free warranty replacement from the dealer, at least in USA (not Canada).
It's likely just the buckle that needs replacing, not the seat belt. But you can confirm this by resetting the SRS light and then plugging in the passenger belt a couple of times: if the light comes back on when the buckle is inserted, then you know it's the buckle.

Old thread, is the problem the SRS light stays on or that the passenger airbag will not deploy in a front impact?

My SRS light has come on twice, once for driver buckle, once for passenger buckle, and each time the stealer replaced the buckle. I don't know if the respective airbag would have deployed when the light is on, but the SRS light indicates a problem somewhere, so it's nice not to have it lit on the dash...

It's different from the OPDS warranty but it is still covered because seatbelts have a lifetime warranty.

Do the seat belt buckles really have a lifetime warranty? I have a 01 CL with 223,000 miles still runs great by the way, but the srs light is on. I've reset it a few times but the second I plug in the seat belt the srs light comes back on. My question is do the seat belts really have a lifetime warranty and will acura replace them even tho my car is 13 years old with 223,000 miles. I was just about to buy some new buckles from acurapartswarehouse.com and then I just stumbles on this post. Please let me know

Yes the buckle has a lifetime warranty but only the buckle and nothing else.

I have the OPDS problem and my car is past the 10 year warranty. Will dealers typically honor the warranty anyway? If not, then what do they typically charge for this fix?
I have a 2002 Acura 3.2 TL (not S). Thanks.
