Yeah, it covers 01-03 CLs, as long as you're under 150,000 miles and it is throwing the right code. It has to be a faulty OPDS sensor that is causing your SRS light to stay on for it to be covered by the recall. It doesn't matter that you bought it used, just take it to an Acura Dealership.

**BEWARE**
**READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO TO THE DEALER**
Took my 2001 CL-S in to the dealer and to check if it's the OPDS unit (occupant position detection system) but was advise that if it's NOT the OPDS unit then I would be charged $92 for a diagnose fee. I was disappointed that Acura doens't have the same level of service like my Mom's Lexus dealership does. FYI, I went to the Cerritos Acura off of South exit and spoke with the service guy named James Wong.
Be warned... but hey I'm still happy that they even extended the warranty to 150K for the SRS issue! Good luck to all!

What else could cause the light to trip besides the SRS control unit or sensor? I called the dealer and they said if it's caused by anything besides those two things. I would have to pay 130 for the diognostic.

$130 for the diagnostic! My dealer charges $90/hr for labor and told me it would be 1/2 hr ($45) for the diagnostic.
By the way, turned out to be code 15-3 and covered by the warranty.

anyone know whether the light being on affects the control or functioning of the srs system? with the light on, would the srs function and inflate the airbags in an impact that normally would trigger, or is the whole system 'shutdown'?

Does this mean i can get my car to dealer and have it check it out even tho there is nothing with it?
My SRS light does come out when someone lean to the right side of the passanger side seat. Is that part of the problem?

Warranty extension for srs
I have had that problem since i bought my o1 3.2cl. I have taken it in on warranty and they were not able to tell me why it keeps coming back on. they said to fix it that it would be around $500 and that it was not covered under my Gold coverage warranty we are at 90,000 miles and my warranty is for 105,000 (extended warranty) it sounds to me that it should be covered????

I called the 800 number this morning and the lady on the other end had a very nice voice and was helpful in letting me know that my CLS is eligible for this coverage, however she wouldn't volunteer any information other than what i asked for. I brought up the Transmission thing and the windshield wiper line deterioration and her response was the same. "You are eligible for the OPDS sensor service" or whatever.
I hung up feeling like she knew something that I didn't.

this really works. I called Acura toll free and sent them the receipts. 24 hrs later they called that a check for $90 is in the mail. Actually, my SRS issue was a faulty seat belt receptacle and not related to this recall but she said since it still involved an SRS light issue they would cover the diagnostic cost from the dealer. It's 90 bucks more than I had on Sunday.

Now I'm pissed! My SRS light started staying on at 80K and the dealer told me "IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY"
When I asked if my SRS system would work in a crash, they could not give me an answer. I agreed to pay the $500+ it would take to replace the sensors but after a month of calling and getting "we still don't have the part...blah,blah,blah" I finally gave up on them and the light has been on every since.
I'm taking my car to them for trans service and alignment in a couple of weeks, so I'm gonna raise a big stink...

Well I found a number to call up the Honda/Acura warranty department and from what it sounds like right now I might get my $300 back! I talked to a really friendly woman who got my info (my VIN and name and everything, updating my info in the computers to show I'm the current owner) and then assigned me a case number to fax in with my receipts from the dealership. She told me to expect a call from them within 48 hours of faxing in my info!
It didn't matter a bit that I'm not the original owner (in answer to a previous question). The only thing that I'm still worried about is that I got the repair done in January but the warranty wasn't extended until March???, so I'm not sure what they'll say about that.
Anybody wanting the info, here it is:
American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
Acura Client Services
Mail Stop 500-2N-7E
1919 Torrance Blvd.
Torrance, CA 90501-9746
Telephone: (800) 382-2238

I'm seeing double!!
Whoah there are two threads here for the same issue, they should be merged!
Anyway i'll throw in my , I actually had mine fixed back in January before the warranty extension was even issued. Now that I found it should have been covered I called up, (and to copy my post from the other thread, here's what happened):

And btw before I got it fixed back in January I asked a techie at the dealership what would happen if I was in an accident with the light on, he said that when the light is on it could potentially shut down the whole airbag system , or at least the passenger's airbag.
So if your light is on and you want to be safe, make sure all your passengers ride in your lap in the driver's seat so they too can be protected by the airbag

Is this a problem...
Newbie here. My SRS light comes on about 75% of the time when I put my work bag (probably weighs 10-15 lbs) in the passenger seat. When I remove it, it goes off. I am assuming that the system "thinks" these's a small kid sitting there.
Does this mean, though, that all of my airbags are inoperable when that light is on, or only the passenger side? I want to get this fixed if it's actually broken.
(BTW, I have an '01 CL Type S with 60k miles; bought used two months ago. Love it... other than having to spend $600+ to fix the damn headlight).
Thanks,
Tyler

I'm actually not sure what happens when the srs light goes off. I think it turns off the passanger airbag, but I'm not sure if it does anything to the drivers side. I'll have to check the owners manual (or you should check your's if you have one).

Yeah i had mine fixed and the light will still come on sometimes when people lean to one side when sitting in the seat, but that's normal.
The guy I talked to at the dealership said that when the light comes on it will probably just disable the passenger airbag but that really all bets are off, the whole system could be disabled depending on exactly what the problem is

Hi, I am new to this forum. I have a 1997 2.2 CL with 230K. I am an engineer for Northrop Grumman and I use my CL to travel to my suppliers in the NorthEast. I am averaging about 800 miles per week. It is a workhorse that has not let me down...really. My SRS light has been on for over 3 years. I am going to try and give Acura a call and see if they will fix it, but in case they will not can someone provide me with detail instructions on how to get this light off.
My other problem is that I failed NJ State Inspection because the EGR portion of my OBD is showing as not ready. This happened 2 years ago and my former mechanic had done some drive cycle to reset it. Does anyone know of the drive cycle I am talking about? If so, please send it to me. I only 20 days left to fix this probelm.

When I called Acura they confirmed that the car was covered, but that they didn't open a case file or give you a claim number or anything, just make an appointment with a dealer. I took my 2001 CL-S in to Steven's Creek Acura and they sent me away with a free rental. Turned out I had a faulty driver's side seat buckle, so that's what they replaced at no charge. Silly me thought all along it was something in the passenger seat, so I wasn't that motivated. No more SRS light. Now back to the warped rotors.
