03 Acura CL 3.2 AT, I got the flashing D5 light of horror... Had the code read, which indicated ATF temperature sensor. How do I find this sensor and replace it? I have the part in hand.

Next question: when I replace this transmission what transmission should I replace it with? I've seen threads talking about replacing it with a different transmission?

I just finished the job, here's what you need to know.

1) gain access by jacking up the front end and removing the front drivers side tire.

2) remove the fasteners on the transmission mount and jack up the transmission about 1 inch to gain clearance for the sensor.

3) remove the three sensor fastener bolts and unclip the sensor.

4) very carefully try to remove the sensor without breaking it. (Mine broke off)

5) don't panic, drill into the sensor about 3/4 inch with a 5/8 long drill bit, be very careful.

6) run a 5/8 inch tap into the sensor until it bites completely and the sensor begins to turn.

7) grip onto the tap with vice grips attached to a slide hammer or vice grips. Grasp the vice grips with plyers and hammer them outward. The sensor will pop out.

8) use drip pan to catch the atf fluid, it will be about 2.9 qts.

9) replace sensor fasteners, atf mount fasteners, and fluid with Honda dw-1.

The code that I got was P0710 which indicates ATF temperature sensor failure.

Does the atf fluid drain through the sensor port when replacing ?

I think I lost about 1/2 quart or so of transmission fluid through the sensor hole.
