2001 CL type -S transmission problems
Well it started out as a little shudder yesterday and in the course of driving it 10 miles the transmission wont engage.
Engine runs fine, I pulled the codes:
P0720
P0730
P0730
P0780
Pulled the cable from the battery and let in sit then tried it no change.
Anyone have any experience like this?
I read some threads, but can't see a definitive answer.
Thanks in advance!

FWIW: Hey Blaine. I see, you've been a member, since 2009. Have you owned this car since 2009? PO720, 730, and 780, is somewhat of an unusual combination, of failure codes, from what I recall. PO740, is probably, the worst code, you could get! Some additional information, provided by you, may be helpful. How long have you owned the car, how many miles, currently, any service history, what is the level, and condition, of the transmission fluid, is this the first time you've noticed a "shudder"? Has any repair, or maintenance work, of any kind, been done on the car recently. Thanks

You've got a couple of options. 1. Take it to your local Acura dealer, or REPUTABLE transmission shop, and pay a reasonable diagnostic fee, to determine the problem, and estimate repair costs, or, 2. If you want it to last another 100K, or more, research installing a used, 2006 or 2007, Honda Accord AV6 transmission. Average cost for a rebuild, if your transmission is toast, = $3,000.00 +. Average cost of the Honda AV6 upgrade, would be in the neighborhood of $1600.00. I hope yours is repairable .Many failures, I'm aware of, were not IMMEDIATE, like your describing, but were preceded, by up-shift shudders, slipping, and or erratic shifts, for a period of weeks, eveb months, before they finally failed completely.

No the transmission was swapped out by the Acura recall at about 65K.

I would still have the codes professionally diagnosed, the transmission, MAY or MAY NOT be toast! . The lack of a P0740 code, as well as the immediacy, of the complete failure, when the only noticeable symptom, was a "mild shudder", exhibited on the same day, is somewhat suspicious to me. It could be, our transmissions can fail, completely, in this manner, I just think it's odd! On 8/23/2016 at 222,896 miles,, the transmission, in my car, exhibited the "dreaded" shudder, when shifting into third, while going up-hill. I added a very small container, of instant shudder fix, NAPA Auto Parts, which eliminated the shudder. Shortly thereafter, I did a 4X4 drain and re-fill, with DW1, and it's performance has been perfect since. Currently at 239,565 miles. Please keep in mind, this is just my opinion.
