At first I thought MT was talking about the new beetle....I didn't realize VW still made the old one.

Updated New Beetle Revealed - - Source: The Car Connection
Get out your magnifying glass. You'll have to look closely to catch the many modest changes making up the 2006 version of Volkswagen's New Beetle. Start with new, squared off bumpers and fenders, with matching, angular running boards. The headlights have been elongated, and the taillights are larger, with new, integrated turn signals. To create an across-the-brand look, the '06 Beetle gets the new honeycomb grille found on other new VW products, such as the Jetta. A matching, small honeycomb grille has been integrated into the rear fascia, as well, which make it even harder to tell whether a Beetle is coming or going. Overall, explained product strategist David Koth, the goal was to give "a little more edge" to the otherwise spherical Bug. Under the hood, the Jetta's new 2.5-liter in-line five-cylinder engine replaces the old 1.8-liter powertrain. The new engine is mated to either a five-speed stick or six-speed automatic, and the 150-hp package is expected to deliver 0-60 times in the low 8-second range. Inside, VW has made a number of modest changes, including a new gauge cluster, and improved cupholders, which should address one of the most frequent complaints about the Beetle. The '06 model will debut in September. Koth said the automaker expects to sell about 40,000 two-doors and convertibles this year, about half the New Beetle's peak volume in 1999. Despite ongoing rumors of the car's demise, he insisted a final decision has not yet been made.

Volkswagen to end production of New Beetle; Replacement due in 2011
Volkswagen is halting production of the New Beetle, the popular, iconic little car that took the country by storm a decade ago. It will make 3,000 more Final Edition versions. That's it.
It will be replaced in 2011 by "something Beetlish," says VW spokesman Steve Keyes at the L.A. Auto Show.
The New Beetle, designed strictly for the U.S. market unlike any other VW models, was launched in 1998. It set the auto world on fire on at the time. And now for its exit: Half of those 3,000 remaining New Beetles will be coupes. The other half will be convertibles. They will go on sale in the U.S. next spring. VW says they will have unique trim and upgrades to mark them as the last of the line.
The New Beetle coupe Final Edition will be priced at $20,240 and the convertible at $27,170. All will be painted a light blue -- Aquarius Blue. The coupe will have a black top and the convertible will have a white folding top.

Press release...
The charm and passion of Volkswagen's iconic New Beetle, which was unveiled at the 1998 North American International Auto Show, continues with the 2010 New Beetle Red Rock Edition. Only 750 of the custom coupes will be available, each with a unique, two-toned exterior comprised of Red Rock metallic paint and a painted black roof. An all black interior complements the overall color scheme, while select 17-inch wheels and a full sport suspension improve driving excitement out on the open road.
