Sidemarker, the bumpers are totally different. It may not look it but it is. Lexus refreshnings are always very subtle. THe Cl update was;
1. Blackout headlight
2. Deletion of fogs
That was all.

2005 Lexus ES330
I can't believe I actually kind of like this car. The ES may still be an older person's type of car, but they really refined it nicely. The interior is VERY classy, a lot of wood and nice looking metals. The projector HID's are a HUGE improvement. The back reminds me of the Toyota Crown sedan (I think it's Crown Royal?) from Japan. Back is kind of Accord-ish, but it looks clean. Back to the interior, really reminds me of an LS430. Looks very nice, but when you can get a TL or G35 for 5k less when fully equipped? Iunno, it'l make for a great showdown. Not bad, I'm actually interested now. I think I DO like it.

I don't like the revised interior, though. The older version looked classier without the aluminum trim; the revised version looks like Lexus is trying to catch some younger dudes, but the effect isn't the same as in the TL's more sporty looking interior. My only beef with the older version was that the wood was too red, now I don't like the tan color wood in the revised interior.

i think the es is one ugly car. the last generation looked nice. bland, but nice. this one is just plain ugly. the interior is typical lexus high quality. the revised tail lights kind of look like the accords.

Don't care for the exterior, although I like the new taillights better than the old ones. If they could revise everything forward of the A-pillar and make it less bubbly I might get interested. Interior is classy and functional, but very plain and not distinctive like the third-gen TL's.

It looks too much like a Camry.

Well at least with the Lexus, you get a high quality interior. I saw pics of the new Buick LaCross's interior...if GM is pitting Buick as the American Lexus, they got their work cut out for them! Even from the pics it look cheap.

The ES330 is a great car. I just like some steering feedback and don't like its "boaty" manners. Basically if someone likes to be isolated and wants a comfortable luxurious car, this is IT.
An excellent car that I wouldnt mind as a freeway cruiser.

ES 330 is basically a baby LS 430. Not sporty at all, just luxurious and reliable. I do agree the looks are not for all (not for me) and for it to be selling so well means it has a solid core audience. A lot of people have no intentions of racing, don't care about RWD, don't care about what is the "new thing". ES 330 is for people who want the best luxury car for 30-40k.

Source of below: magneto112's post here
In March 2006:
'07 ES350 will have a 3.5 liter engine with a completely new body style. The only thing they are keeping the same on the ES will be the headlight design.

... I wonder if it's the 3.5L out of the Avalon. Or the 3.5L V6 from the IS? Shame they're keeping the Pokemon headlamps. Maybe they'll look better with the new body.

Kinda assumed considering the avalon has the engine, buyers need power and luxury as Lexus found out when the new TL exceeded ES sales.

After seeing the new IS, I think I'll retract my statement - take the ES money and buy an IS.

Yes, but the USDM Accord = TL, and it is basically tarted up out Accord, though in much nicer sheet metal. Europe's Accord is the TSX here. Still, there's nothing wrong with the platform sharing if it's done right, IMO. The TL has things that aren't even optioned on the Accord, which is the right way to do it. The ES comes off as a Camry with standard leather and different (but still ugly) sheetmeat... not the way to do it.
