Then again I'm just an avg Joe. Not a former architect and car designer.

I'll wait for ThermonMermon to tell me whether or not it looks good.

+1. The exterior leaves me underwhelmed, but the interior is absolutely drop dead goregous. I'd luv to sit in that car everyday to work...

Looks like a larger A4. Can't say I'm impressed with the exterior, esp if all the sedans are all going to look alike. Mundane at best.

I give Acura props for its styling. Even if it is "love it or hate it," its vehicles are distinctive and unique.

Wow,
What's the deal with BMW and Audi revealing these boring designs? I can understand BMW erring back to the mainstream following the last generation's design, but Audi really went off in the wrong direction with this one. Everybody's hyping the interior, but IT'S THE SAME INTERIOR AS LAST GENERATION'S!!
Mercedes' S-Class design, while older, is KILLING these two cars...

Damn, that interior is light years ahead of the S/7-series....I'm somewhat displeased with the exterior design. There isn't anything wrong with it, but it is very underwhelming. As others have said, it looks like a stretched out A4. I think it would look a lot more aggressive with nicer/bigger wheels and a big fat BBK behind them..

This thing is just laughable. Hideous headlights, ridiculous shifter, overdone interior, exterior that makes me stifle a yawn....

I bet the heads at BMW and m-b are giggling at this. I see it remaining the absolute bottom of class, just like the previous models.

I found one more pic of that variable interior lighting... perhaps the most important one:

exciting stuff to come - that interior just raised the bar for mainstream luxury saloons.

this interior is comparable to those of exotic luxury cars priced at 3x more.

The new Audi A8 – with Google at the leading edge of Connectivity
  • A8 searches for and retrieves internet content via the mobile phone network
  • Online point-of-interest search powered by Google integrated with the Audi navigation system
  • Google Earth available for the first time in a production vehicle

Among the myriad of technological features coming to the 2011 Audi A8, its revised Multi Media Interface system, complete with the new "MMI touch" feature, will also include the first application of Google Earth in a production car.

In addition to the traditional hard-disk navigation system, an optional GPRS/EDGE modem is integrated into the MMI nav-plus system allowing a constant stream of information to be downloaded and accessed from Google. Along with GPS-based searches for local services, users can plan out their trips on Google Maps, Google Earth or through Audi's online portal, and navigation data is analyzed and relayed to all the A8's systems, including the automatic cruise control with "Start & Go" functionality, the adaptive lights and the eight-speed automatic gearbox.

With a SIM card inserted into the A8's MMI setup (or data-enabled phone paired via Bluetooth) Google Earth can provide drivers with a three-dimensional view of their surroundings displayed on the A8's eight-inch LCD display, showing satellite imagery and terrain modeling, along with all the traditional navigation system's functionality both online and off. The integration of Google Earth is set to go live on the A8 sometime in the middle of 2010, soon after Audi's new flagship goes on sale in the spring. Check out all the details in the press release after the jump.

I'm not impressed at all.

A big A4? I mean, a very big A4... looks really fat and lazy outside. The LED day time running light looks fine on the A4, but moving up to A8, boy it really looks cheap. The belt line goes up, imitating A4 again, and reminds me of the 1 series fat belly. The tail looks fattest from the size view, and the big front over hang doesn't help either.

Talking about BMWs getting back to cutting the same sausage into different lengths, Audi is now the master of that.

Interior - quality seems quite there, but the design - it's not new, and a bit gimmicky. way too many buttons on the dash - why do you need a dial any way then? And that clock, for crying out loud, is a big failure.

And the Google stuff - soon every bit of that will be available on a Google phone. No more need for the Navi option in cars.
