transmission replacement with rebuilt trans
the dealer is going to replace the transmission in my 01 CLS with a rebuilt tranny. Is there any way I can get him to put in a NEW transmission? I requested a NEW transmission. He says only rebuilts are available.

Going to edit mine since my tranny will not get out of 1-2 gear now. Towing to the dealership to see whats up....so this might be number 2 (excluding the original).

My 1st tranny went at 23k and was replaced. Since then I received a notice about the 2nd gear oil jet kit but wasn't sure if this was something new until I took my car in last Wednesday 10/6 for a coolant and brake flush at 38.5k. The service adviser told me that my 2nd gear showed discoloration and that Acura recommended installing a tranny with an oil jet kit. They gave me a brand new 2005 4dr F150 truck with 80 miles for 5 days, which I returned on Mon 10/11. In the 5 days I had that truck I put in $40 worth of gas. That sucker sure drinks the stuff. The technician also recommended having my rotors and brake pads done as the rotors were warped. I had to let the service adviser know that I was aware of the TSB before they would agree to fix my rotors under warranty. This will be the 2nd time I had the rotors done. Man I sure wish I could afford another car right now. This is the first car I've had that seems to have so many problems.

Black Snowman ,so your first tranny lasted 23k miles and the new replacement lasted 15k miles.....
It would be interesting to know the shorest time a 2nd transmission has lasted ...My first went at around 20k even and my 2nd went at about 23k miles ..so what is that 3 k miles???
Right now I think BabyBlue on this forum holsds the record.... the 2nd or 3rd tranny lasted like out of the dealership parking lot! I think or maybe just on the ride home ,either way it is just unbelievable!

01 CL-S (purchased July 2000)
Replace 10/26/04
Failed at 91K
Replaced with new trans and chip (according to tech).
Oil kit was installed in June (downhill after that...maybe coincedence).
Seems to shift rougher than old trans. Waiting to break-it in.

tranny failure
wow...
I cringe when I come in here... I got rid of my 01 CL S... I decided that to run the car to the ground would be insance considering all the power train issues.
Acura has IMHO failed to fix the tranny problem and is masking it in the 04/05s. Sure people in that forum say only the 04s were affected by the oil jet. Well DOH... the install them in the factory most likely on the newer models.
That alone with modext gains in power and no lower end torque...
Traded it in for a g35 and while the car is not perfect. It does out handle the CL, the newer TLs and has more power... The gas mileage is off because the gearing is much lower than the acura. In 5th on a g35 5AT it turns at 3000 at 75 where the cl was 2000. But there is great acceleration at that speed. 280 hp and 270 torque at 4800... I have been reading up on the g35 forums and aside from a 6mt synchro issue, I have not heard of any AT issues...

I wonder if maybe changing fluids every 15k-30k might extend the life of the tranny.
Could it be that people who experienced severe tranny lockups did not change fluids regularly?
Please post if fluids had been monitored or not prior to transmission failure.
