neyeswhip- 2001 CL type-s

Cliff Notes:

Bought vehicle in Oct 2005, kept bone stock til summer '09

Became bored with vehicle, contemplated selling/buying 3G TL. Decided it wasn't worth it due to low resale value. Settled on sprucing it up...

Rotora slotted rotors/ceramic pads
Eibach springs, RSB, moog endlinks, tokico struts
VIS carbon fiber hood
Custom meshed inserts/Custom grille
'03 Headlight housings
Fresh paint on front bumper
18" MRR GT1 gloss black, Michelin PS 235/40

Nothing special, but figured some would like to see. Also have to give some credit to nf3d0149ab and his thread for selling me on the CF hood (instead of fresh paint) and putting the GT1s in the running during my drawn-out wheel debate.

No performance mods but numerous upgrades/preventative mx and interior mods, which i may get into later.

Big thanks to this forum as well. Wasn't a big poster but learned a lot and owe a ton to all the people who contribute. Thanks!

Nice CL! It is something special, don't let other people fool you. I think a carbon fiber lip spoiler, and tinted tail lights will finish this car exterior-wise. So far, it's coming along great

Thanks guys.

Yea it would look better dropped a little more but i cant justify the time/money. Same reason i got 18s, sure 19s would look better but the 18s are just more practical.

As for the tail lights, i actually prefer these to the '03s and i def wont be tinting them. I see how in the picture they do tend to stand out cause the sun is setting directly behind them.

The spoiler is something i have been debating for a while and i actually have a lip spoiler which i ordered from an ebay vendor. Unfortunately due to my mistake (told them to make it 46") it is too short. Just cant make up my mind on what to do with the ass of this car.

A couple things i would still like to do to is color match the door handles and black out the chrome around the windows. And i will be painting the "A" on the trunk black whenever i get around to it.

Do it!

I would love to have a carbon fiber hood but considering we only get 3-4 months of decent weather here I would be constantly worried about damaging it.

Looks good. Add a carbon fiber trunk and black vinyl on the roof and it will have a nice black/silver look. I would be too worried about trunk fitment tho. Other thing I would want to do if I had a cf hood is paint it silver up to those first crease lines from the sides and leave the center CF.

A member on here that was local to me had a white CL. I mentioned the black roof to him and he had a very good point regarding it. If you look at the 3rd gen TLs that have a vinyl roof, the front and rear glass has a 90* corner on it where it meets the roof, and the glass is in line with the run channels in the roof as well.

On the CL, the corners are rounded, but the run channels are inboard further so the vinyl might look out of place.

Id still like to see it done though, but he made a good point.

I'm really not a fan of the CF trunks or lip spoilers. Probably going to try the SSM lip spoiler again, if i can get the right size.

I don't think the vinyl wrap roof would look right either. I guess to me anything more than the hood is too much.

[QUOTE Heres a CL with the black roof, my friend was right about the corner of the glass not matching the run channels:/QUOTE]

I would have to see more angles to form a solid opinion, but it def isn't terrible. Does more resemble a mohawk then a fade though.

I couldn't have said it any better Brian, I always thought about doing that if I ever got a lipkit and had the car in for a re-paint. Not to mention the edges on my cf hood are pretty rough but the paint would hide that.
Ohh and about the trunk not fitting right, I finally found someone who is willing to try and fix it properly. I had heard so many different opinions from lots of different "body guys" but finally got the right answer so we will see how much time and money it needs.

Ohh neyeswhip I like your car, nice upgrades!

I personally never did like carbon fiber hoods, its just something I always thought detracts from a cars overall appearance.

Picked up car from dealership today after they did motor mounts and valve adjustment. Motor is much quieter and more free revving. Much better throttle response/acceleration without having to downshift.

Changed out trans filter and did 3x3 with Amsoil as well last week. Shifts are very quick and smooth. Overall car is smooth as silk and running as well, if not better, then when i bought it in '05 with 69K (now has 123K).

Dealership also ordered new front seat belt retractors for replacement under the warranty.

Drove an '11 TL for two days, very nice ride, just not as fun to drive as a CL. Though i'm sure a 6spd AWD would be.

I really like your custom grille. I've been trying to figure out what I want to do for mine. Could anyone tell me what material they used and size badge? I'm pretty confident I can fab it myself with the right materials. FYI... body color is Naples Gold and I am going to stick with a black color for the grille. I have a set of wheels to put on after the first of the year.

Looks good, Ive considered selling and have tried with no luck, Im actually sitting at burger king at the moment looking at my car out the window and thinking "why do I want to sell her?" The car for being ten years old still looks modern and I just cant see driving anything else. Ive had mine for four years and it took that long to start modding it.

Just what I was thinking. My 03 CL had the stock spoile. I like coupes that way. If you don't, the M3 lip spoiler a lot of 2nd gen TL/CL owners were installing works too.

Put on some used Comptech headers this weekend and it took waaay longer than it should have. Had to drop the whole exhaust and make two cuts to the stock downpipes due to seized nuts/bolts (no air tools or lift utilized). Definitely was worth the time/money, car is much more responsive throughout the power band.
