If you have a TL or TL/S with a vehicle identification number that falls into the ranges above you should be recieving notification for t-belt tensioner update .

Upon receipt of this notice from Acura you should contact your dealer and make arrangements to have the car brought up to spec .Or let them know at your next service visit that you think your car may fall under this update and have them bring the car up to spec as needed .

yeah, I got the notice in the mail, and I already did mine. guys when you go in, plan for about a 2-3 hour wait. Its a very involved procedure.

Jens, any idea on how much of an extra charge I might be nailed with? I have the supercharger, and my VIN's unfortunately included on the list.

My guess would be about 1 to 2 hours customer pay labor .The SC is not that involved .

Thought you told me all the work could be done from underneath, by removing the splash shield and the charger is not involved at all??

Smitty after doing several of these I see no way to remove the front t-belt cover without affecting the s/c .I am sorry if I misled you I had based my earlier idea on an approach to this repair that in practice does not work .Unfortuanately the S/C does need to be moved a bit in order to gain access to the front cylinder head cam gear .

The belt will need to be removed.
And the because of the close proximity of the blower to the front cylinder head cam gear cover they will need to move it up so they can get the cover out .The cover must be removed as the repair procedure requires that the t-belt be temporarily tie strapped to the cam gear to avoid the possibility of the belt shifting on the cam gear .

Interesting. It looks like the older 2002 models (the first ones out) were not effected. Only the last of the 2002s and 2003.

Kind of make you wonder why they changed something mid-stream. Typically as the model years progress there are fewer and fewer "bugs" in them.

Nope, 14yr Veteran tech that I demanded to do the work did all the work by removing the splash shield, the Blower did not need to moved at ALL!!!... thank goodness.. you had me worried..

I can't believe the dealership actually did everything correct 100% this time... they must of made some serious changes, because I was EXTREMELY pleased with everything they did..

#1. Tensioner
#2. replaced drivers seat cover
#3. 4 wheel alignment with requested PRINT OUT of specs.
#4. Adjusted the E-brake cable at the rear wheels.
#5. DID NOT WASH MY CAR.... Yipeeeee... they finally listened..

Dropped it off at 8 a.m. , done by 3:30 P.M....

Only disappointment was the base RSX free loaner.... I wanted to drive a 04 TSX or 04 TL damn it...... oh well.. atleast they hooked me up.

Got mine done this week and no complications. Was hoping for a fresh Timing belt and Water pump with a coolant change. Walked away with only the tensioner. I guess i should be happy.

Hmmm ok well I have not had to do a tensioner on a CT SC equipped car so maybe there is a way to do it .I looked one over and had my doubts that the front cam cover would come out if the blower pulley was in the way .Oh well nobody is perfect especially me

Well, this figures, I guess. I take my 03 cls6 in for oil/filter change and tire rotation at 8000 miles. Thanks to Jens, I notify the dealer that I think the tensioner needs to be replaced. The service writer says "no problem, the computer will tell us if it needs to be replaced." Computer says no. I say are you sure, a total of three times. No, no and no.

So I get home today, and when the mail arrives, there is the blue and white envelope telling me to go get the belt tensioner replaced. At Acura, does the right hand know what the left hand is doing?

got my notice yesterday, going into service on thursday.

i noticed a fast clicking sound coming from under the hood of the car and i can hear it from inside the car, is this what could be affected?

That clicking UNCTYPE-S could be a part of the emission gear doing it's normal thing .Make sure you have them listen to that noise in fact better yet demonstrate it to them so that there is no ambiguity about what is making noise .

took my car in yesterday at 9 am, went back around noon time and it was finished. so depending on how busy the dealership is, i would not think it would take 1 full day.

FYI: Last Feb, my Fiancé and I took her '03 CL-S in because of a noise and vibration that had developed in the engine compartment, mainly while accelerating. The problem was diagnosed as a failed timing belt tensioner. The tensioner and the belt were replaced. The car had 13,232 miles on it. Her car does fall into the list of vins on the first page, but I don't expect to get a notice since the work has been done already. There has been 14K miles put on since the new tensioner, and everything seems fine.

Since this is a new campaign you may be getting that notice afterall .The issue revolves around leaks from the oil seal on the tensioner .

Got my notice a few weeks ago, was unable to get into the dealer til this week. They are new and didn't have their networks up yet. They said everthing was ok and just replaced the tensioner.
I mentioned to check the brake vibration too. They said not only the fronts but the back brakes were vibrating too. Supposedly getting all new pads and rotors turned. That's great, but not happy that 11k miles was all it took to warp the rotors.
I know it's a common problem, but I thought it was always just the front brakes. They've had my car 3 days tho.

I got my recall notice the day after I had the 30k service and the tensioner fixed - last Saturday.
They didn't ask for the notice when I told them I thought my VIN was covered in the recall (thanks to this site!), and I got to drive a POS TSX for a day

I TOLD my dealer that there was somthing wring...he goes "Its because of the nigh output motor" "Even the new ones do it" yes, they do and there is something wrong with those too...damn ass Acura dealer.
