Thought this was interesting. Maxima's need 25psi of boost to get 400whp!!

Wait a minute... does this mean your engine makes ~505hp/435ft-lbs. at the crank!? That is using a 17% drivetrain loss (X - 17%X=419hp).
kewl... 500hp Acura CL

I dont know how accurate you can guage whp into flywheel hp. Why Stock the 6 speeds take out about 40hp, why would the loss double just because its making more hp? Either way he's still got a buttload of power.

The actual numerical hp loss is double... but the percentage stays the same.

It's always a % loss. I believe a stock CL-S 6spd dyno'd at TOV made 220whp (Dynojet). Given the factory output of 260hp @ the crank, that's a 15.4% loss. My car made 419.3whp (Dynapak), so let's drop that by ~15whp to 405whp. Accounting for the 15.4% loss, the crank hp is 478.64hp. Considering that there is a SIGNIFICANT difference in horsepower production (especially an FI/Intercooled car) between a car on a dyno vs. a car truly accelerating, it is not completely outlandish to consider this as a 500hp vehicle.

Outlandish? I think it'd be ignorant on quite a few levels to _not_ know that your setup is capable of making more than 500hp (crank, so far ) given anything but the worst conditions (high temps, stationary vehicle, etc.).

edit: I didn't see the previous few posts. Oh well..if he did it, somebody else will no doubt take it to another level.

wait wait wait wait, you're making almost 500 crank HP with < 12PSI? Geez. Where I come from I'm used to people making 340 HP with 23 PSI. What is the maximum amount of boost that your internals could handle? It seems to me like you could still tweak a lot more out of that SOHC. Maybe i'm wrong...I dunno much about Acuras...but that's why I'm here

But man is that BADASS on every freaking level!! Have fun waving goodbye to F430s...if you don't melt your LSD that is..lol

340hp at 23psi... Yeah, on an 4cyl. Like Evo or STi. This is a bigger displacement, don't forget.

More like 7psi.. I never got it past that level. At 12psi, it would easily pass the 500 crank horsepower.

The turbo design made a huge difference. Old kit vs. new kit was +75whp at the same boost level!

crazy crazy. How much boost could the internals handle on a type-S? I have to imagine the compression ratio is pretty high in that high strung motor.

The turbo was different (T3/T4 hybrid vs. GT35R - BlueCL6S did some good work in matching the best turbo for the breathing characteristics of the J32A2). In addition, the manifold was a little different. 3" downpipe vs. 2.5". Also, the merge on the exhaust manifold was designed such that between 4K - 8K RPMs the wavelength of the exhaust pulses would not cause a hot-spot where the 2:1 (after both 3:1 merges occur and when it combines into one inlet into the turbine) - the latter proved significantly helpful in preventing detonation at 6-7psi.... the old kit needed 4-5 degrees of timing retard. The new kit ran run timing on 91-octane. Lastly, the IC inlet and outlet were designed differently to minimize temperature increases... this was pure chemistry and physics (PV=nRT and Boyle's Law).
