Exclamation Intake manifold thermal gasket

so i recently started to experience horsepower loss (alot)... and i thought my piston rings were bad ... i was working on my car earlier today ,took off the intake manifold and notice that my thermal gasket had melted a bit and the egr port on the gasket was not even wih the port on the lower runners .. therfore causing a gasket leak ... wow those things are garbage do not use!! I need to check my t.b because i have one on there aswell..

That's crazy, I wonder what caused this.. Has anyone else experienced this issue? How many miles did you put on the car with it installed before failing?

This seems strange. I've been running a P2R gasket for over a year now, 30000 miles and zero issues. I removed the IM recently - nothing abnormal to report.

Hmm, car puffs white smoke, IM gasket deforms from heat. Wonder what caused that...

Hmmm...same. I just installed P2R thermal gasket and the car now idles funny and I get a P0505 code. I bought a new Idle Control Valve and PCV valve and still does the same. I may have to take the manifold apart again to check for leaks since that's the only thing I could think of (maybe the gasket is not on properly).

YEss i experiences the same idle problem .. thats what happens when you over tighten the intake manifold it squeezes the gasket out of place .. ( besides they dont even give alot
of performance.. i just took mine off i rather not buy anymore of those gaskets

I just put one on my 07 tl and it idled fine. I guess we’ll see after a while if I have any issues. The main idea behind these is not to gain power but to keep the intake cool by not transferring heat. My friend has one on his 06 accord and before you could hardly touch the intake manifold without being burned, now after a 30 minute drive and plenty of hard pulls it’s fairly cool to the touch.

Right, had to take my thermal gasket off...( My motor wouldn't idle properly when cold, plus you could hear much more than you were supposed to (as in valvetrain noise and engine internals doing their thing, caused by a pretty serious leak in the intake). As soon as I installed a regular metal gasket, the engine quieted down. Idle seems to be fine too now.
