I'd like to make it look finished. I think I can cover most of it with the door pocket and maybe use some JB weld and steel wool to fill in the voids. Maybe cover it with some resin or something. I'm even worse at upholstery than I am at fabrication.

Maybe just filler and then Super-77 some thick vinyl or even leather over it? If only you had leather seats to match...

Well, she's all legal. Title, plates, and insurance added today. I plan to drive it to work tomorrow.

Have I mentioned how much fun it is to drive? Holy sh!t.

It runs great. The only problem I have is that the 4th gear syncro is bad. I get a little grind if I don't double clutch 4th gear. I wish I had opened the trans up while I had it out and taken a look at things, but it's too late now. I'm not gonna drop the trans again for a while if I can help it. Maybe I'll address it the next time I do the clutch.

I haven't read this entire thread; have you tried replacing the MTF with ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified? I had a slight grind in third when I bought my car and the Synchromesh (Friction Modified) fixed the issue immediately.

I've read where that stuff has led to more problems in the long run.

I also recommend ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified fluid, never heard anyone having issues. I've ran it in my cars without any issues.

As others have indicated, quite the contrary really; some folks have been to the point of having the synchros replaced, or worse, the tranny rebuilt when they finally tried ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified (beware, there is also a non-Friction Modified version of Synchromesh as well, do NOT use that version). Funny thing, all follow up reports, even after an additional 100,000+ miles indicate the tranny is still shifting flawlessly (assuming a MTF drain/refill every 30,000 miles).

I only ordered two quarts. I have a partial quart of Honda MTF leftover from a couple weeks ago. Do you all think it's OK to use two quarts of one type of fluid and a little bit of another?

Well, I suppose only ten ounces of Honda MTF is better than a full fill of Honda MTF. That said, were it me I'd buy a third quart of Synchromesh and use the Honda MTF to lubricate squeaky door hinges, pour into a hive of ground wasps, or even use it as a cure for dishpan hands; I just wouldn't put it in a Honda manual transmission.

I went ahead and ordered a third quart. No point in going cheap now.

Is it supposed to work right away or does it take some time. I just changed the fluid this afternoon and have only put a couple miles on it. Only got to 4th gear three times.

Crap! Serious bummer.

When I put the Synchromesh in mine it transformed the transmission in like the first 100 yards; not *quite* "right away", but pretty darn close.

Mainshaft Assembly Clearance Inspection begins on page 13-35 in the Helms Manual.

There is a note that states: If replacement is required, always replace the synchro sleeve and hub as a set.

Does that mean you would have to purchase #3 ($407.73) Gear Set Counter-shaft Second; to get the sychros you need, and possibly #6 ($78.50) Gear, Counter-shaft Forth to remedy your issue?

No, it means we skip 4th gear or double clutch.

You might want to try XADO EX120 for manual transmissions. It may be the best $20 you'll ever spend.

No, don't mix them. It's a waste of the GMSMFM. You now have diluted fluid which really isn't doing what it was intended to do. It really is an all or nothing fluid change. Also, are you sure the viscosities are the same?

you might not be able to fix your problem with just a straight fluid change, but it's a cheap enough potential fix to try.

i bought three quarts of GMSMFM. It didn't help at all. It's crazy because it's just the slightest grind. It's disappointing more than anything really. I'm not pulling that trans again right now after the fight I had putting it in.

Back at it guys. I'm almost certain the engine and trans are coming out again. After all I've done, my wife isn't that impressed. She doesn't want to drive a second gen Odyssey for the rest of her life, no matter how awesome it is. I shoulda jumped on a chance to get cheap parts for the trans but I didn't, like a chump, so I'm going to be buying new. I'm going to open the trans up, like I should have before I installed it, to examine the damage before I order any parts, then I'm gonna rebuild it myself. I might find a different engine too. I haven't made up my mind if I want more power or better fuel economy. Either way, I'm guessing the 3.2L is gonna go. Feel free to post all the advice you've got regarding building a good motor.

I'll make sure to take some pictures.

Doing a manual trans rebuild with pictures would be awesome!

Is there something wrong with the engine? Why rebuild or replace it? Like you said, it doesn't seem like your wife would be impressed by a different engine.

Not sure if I've provided this already in the past; so, just an FYI.

Check out the link below for pictures of the inside of a 05 TL 6spd. On page 69 starting at post #2741 and continuing on #2742 and #2743.

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...718808/page69/

Then in post #2751 the banned forum member NVA-AV6 gives some 'good tips' on what to look out for when working on the MT.

Continuing on to post #2755, he shows pictures of the inside of the 03 CLS 6spd tranny.

Hopefully, as part of your preplanning those pictures will give you an idea of what 'stuff' looks like.

I may have spoken too soon. Sometime shortly after my last post, my wife's van gave her troubles so she switched to the shiftervan. After a week or so of driving it, she loves it. I've got to investigate an intermittent P0335 code on her van that I think is related to a broken or shorted wire in the harness somewhere. I'm hoping to find it right away and punt that van down the road. It looks like I won't be pulling the drivetrain out of the shiftervan after all.

Nice to have another j32 swapped odyssey. Too bad my van didn't last long as it was wrecked badly. I may try another swap again soon👍🏻

So I’m about to be doing a 6sp swap in an 03 Odyssey.. Do you have pics on how you mounted the clutch pedal under the dash? Also, I’m assuming the wiring is different t from 02-04 than it is the 99-01 Odyssey vans as far as green plug and using the CL harness to run the van.

I don't have any pics other than what is in the build thread. I took the ABS control module under the dash off and used the bolt that secures it to the firewall to locate a bracket that I made to mount the clutch pedal. The clutch was the hardest part. Good luck. It's a pretty cool vehicle when it's done. You'll enjoy it. I tried to message you but I got a message saying your inbox is full.
