Pioneer Interfaces
Our head units are sourced from Pioneer.
It would have been a nice partnership if Acura leveraged more of the Pioneer technology in our two screen interface. But perhaps that is the direction they are heading as some of these units seem close to what is offered in the Pilot and new Civic. They do not capture HVAC controls and hence we have a two screen arrangement.
As Ford and other manufacturers learned, they have returned to button controls for the HVAC and the interface is phone & infotainment (more parallel to smart phones). It also enables Apple and Google car integration with your smart phone.

I believe I was incorrect with Pioneer. I believe it is Alpine.
However, my point is that this technology exists in the marketplace, and a more direct interface to smartphones removes the software products and performance from the car and to the smartphone - which has a faster refresh cycle and advancement of feature offerings. In essence, the car becomes a docking station for your smartphone. And if it is via USB, why not tablets as well?
