I was looking at Bisimotos website the other day and noticed he does regrinds for j series motors. His stage 1 gives about 10% gains. I know this is hypothetical and most people in this vehicle probably would not want to attempt it till the TLX was paid off or as a project car but just something fun to think about. Brand new stock cams can be bought for $400 then sent in to Bisimoto for the regrind $850. Add on the stiffer springs and titanium retainers $500, add on a j37 manifold and throttle body $500 use Ktuner to tune and with a raised limiter and valve rain going up to maybe 7500-8000rpms. Probably about $3000 all bought and installed. A little more and one could rig up a turbo though. Just a fun idea.

That sounds like a great idea if I wasn’t so scared to try it out. I will keep that in mind for the future but your right that is probably the most reliable method. Maybe when it comes time to change my timing belt I will swallow the lump in my throat and do this at the same time.

I just checked an Acura parts store and the part numbers are the same for the RLX and TLX for the following

Throttle body
intake manifold
cylinder head front and back
valves
springs
block
pistons

The crankshaft, rods and cams seem to be the only different part numbers so yea just dropping in the cams would probably (think of them as the modern Type S cams) make a difference. I know with the old J series you could drop in type S cams and make power with out a tune. I wonder how well it would work with the newest engines. I don’t have any K-tuner dealers in Utah where I live so the closest area would be Las Vegas. Maybe they will make a base tune one day. I asked hondata just the other day as well as 2 years ago if they plan on tuning the TLX and they said, “no plans”.
