Worth getting the 2017 Map Update?

Did anyone get a map update for 2017? Feedback how it is & their opinion if it's worth it?

Thank you all.

*oops just realized this probably belongs to the NAVIGATION forum. Sorry about that. Request mods to move it there.

I have it and it was worth $150 that it cost when I got it. Now it's just $100. But of course your mileage may vary. It has new road data, but not "up to the minute." It does some new display tricks--shows some detail in shopping centers. But it does not make radical changes in how the system works. I guess it really depends on what else you would do with the $100.

Mine should be here Tuesday. Didn't pay for quick shipping. How long did installation take?

I recently bought a certified 2013 TL and just ordered the 2017 update as I don't believe it's ever been updated. Not impressed with the NAV so far as it's a lot more difficult than my $150.00 Garmin. Are there any changes to the way you operate the system, or is it simply an update of roads and POI info.? Would also love if they would add posted speed limits like my Garmin does. That was really helpful and my cousin's Toyota Highlander has that feature on its NAV system. Thanks in advance for any info.!

Can't say for you since this is the TLX section. Our cars date from the 2015 model year.

Just got mine in the mail today (Ordered 3/16, with free shipping). I'd love to install it tonight, but I probably won't have the two hours necessary to install it until this weekend. I still think it's ridiculous that it takes a couple hours (with the engine running!) to install. I may just try the trickle-charger trick, so that I don't have to waste all the gas.

The road changes (if there are any in my area) will be nice, but I'm really hoping that there's SOME noticeable improvement over the rest of the infotainment system. If I notice any, I'll be sure to post here, as I hope others will as well.

Just installed mine, instructions say 75 minutes, and it was about that. However, after you complete the installation the data will load from the HDD "in the background" for 5 hours, as long as the engine is running. So you won't see much change until that is completed, if at all. It'll take me a week or more to get my 5 hours in.

Unhappy Map Update

I bought a map update for my 2009 TL and have had problems. The state of Florida will not update so every time I start the car the NAV system says my maps aren't updated (a voice and a message on the screen).

I exchanged the map disks and tried to reinstall but that didn't resolve the problem.

The company that sells the nav disks said the dealer could "reset" the nav system to the factory settings to eliminate the notification that the maps aren't updated. The dealer said they have tried resetting the nav system for others with this issue but then the nav system fails altogether which requires a new nav system. The dealer is aware of this issue and is of no help. Neither is the company who sells the map disks.

Buy the map update at your own risk.

Some people have hooked a trickle charger to their battery, and simply did the upgrade with the car on, but without the engine running. This way, you save gas, but don't completely drain your battery trying to do a 75+ minute install on battery alone.

Mine finally finished after about a week of driving (after the initial 75+ minute install). To be honest, I don't notice a single change. Obviously, newer roads and POCs may be more accurate, depending on your local area, but otherwise, if there are any changes, I haven't found them.

What definitely did NOT change is the bluetooth lag. I know, this is a map update, but since it wiped all my bluetooth settings, I assume that it updated the bluetooth stack. Still, the lag is still there, and the Eyes Free button still doesn't work with my Nexus phone. Yes, I know it's an iPhone thing, but it is known to work with some Android phones, and I'm always hopeful.

In short, everything seems to work as well, or as poorly, as it did before. If anyone finds any changes, please update this thread. So far, though... I got nothin'.

Attempt to get bluetooth lag resolved.

If you have an Acura call In-Car Tech Support Team at 888-528-7876 and report the bluetooth lag problems with your vehicle. The more reports they receive the higher the chance of actually getting this fixed.

I just got an email for the 2018 navi update for $100 shipped. Has anyone got the 2018 yet? My car is 2016, is it worth it to update or wait for another year or so?

I got that as well, for my 2012 TL. I still have the factory map from 6 years ago now and I'm still not strongly considering it. I use google maps for everything. But for $100, it might be worth it.

If I was 2016 though, I don't think I'd bother. Just my personal opinion.

Yeah I used google as well. I always check with google maps first before heading out, mainly for traffic and quick zoom lol. It is nice to have the map in the car though. I did find some places I need to go that weren't on the acura's map, but not enough to be a problem yet lol. I guess I will wait for 2019 or 2020 haha

I took advantage of the $99 promotion and last week applied the 2018 update to my 2017 TLX. A new interstate highway interchange was opened near our community in 2016. We use it often, so looked forward to the update. Was disappointed that it's not in the 2018 map I just installed. One would think 2 years (plus the planning stages) would give the map makers enough time to add an interstate highway interchange! My wife's Garmin included this interchange almost as soon as it opened.

Same here on my 2010 RDX. Installed the update 2018 and a few roads are missing from the map. I'm in the Raleigh, NC area and one of the missing roads is the not-so-new southern portion of the I-540. It hasn't been more than a day and I have only driven the car for about 20 minutes since installing the update. I've seen other posters saying that it takes a few hours to download the maps to the HDD, but I'm not sure if that is the reason for my update to be missing some important roads.

Anyone knows if the navi on the RDX 2010 needs several hours to download the new maps to the HDD?

I got the promotion and purchased the DVD update for my 2015 TLX Advance - I received the 'Brown' version which I believe is correct based on database version, etc. per the order instructions.

All of the installation instructions say to load the DVD into the System disc slot and not the DVD player - I have searched the vehicle and documentation and cannot find a System disc device. On my previous RL there was a System disc in the trunk but unless it's well hidden, I'm not finding one on my TLX. YouTube videos show people loading in the DVD player for TL updates.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

You just put it in the CD player on the audio system. You’re overthinking it. Whole update was simple and took about 45 min.

Just finished installing the '18 navigation update for my '16 TLX. The installation went pretty much as described in the instruction guide but it did take a very long time to completely install. The first 45 - 50 minutes the car is supposed to be parked and turned on. I hooked my car car up to a battery charger to avoid wasting the fuel. Worked perfectly. I used the battery charger again for part two of the installation which probably took close to 5 hours. Finally finished up and thankfully, no issues. The only real difference I've noticed so far is that a newer stretch of highway in my general area now shows up and did not before. I'm pleased with the update. Got it for $99 with free shipping.
